We got the dark Cherry cabinets back in 2007 which had an up-charge of what I recall was $900. That was 100% Irene's idea. I didn't want such a dark interior but I selected other upgrades that Irene did not value, so there you have it. The standard cabinetry back then was light colored maple.
Hickory will take a beating best. Phoenix uses true solid hickory only on cabinet door and drawer faces, but paper-covered plywood elsewhere. Having the cabinet fronts made of hickory solids and true hickory plywood veneers elsewhere would have made an exceptionally robust interior.
Given the price for a new Phoenix Cruiser, they should include premium hickory cabinetry. Just offer some stain options for their various color schemes. 100% hickory is "true" quality.
