Liteco Model 172 Fixture Replacement
« on: September 20, 2020, 11:13:34 am »
Liteco Model 172

These came in my 2011 2551. I need to replace one but I can't even find a Google image of one. I'm also not seeing a replacement that has fluorescent and incandescent lamps in it.

Any of you replaced one of these? What did you use?

Yes, Carol is the best.  If you want to replace with an LED fixture you can.  There is no need for both LED and fluorescent in the same fixture, in fact, it be a huge waste of $.   There is no difference in the wiring INTO the fixture... Both need just a positive and negative 12v dc.

This is not answering your question, but rather offering a very affordable conversion from florescent to LED.  CLICK HERE FOR THE WRITE-UP WITH PICTURES.

My eyes hate LED lighting. I’m not really a fan of fluorescent either but I can tolerate it.

I like the original fixture because I get the bright option when I need it and the dim incandescent when getting up at night or just need mild ambient light when reading or watching a movie.

I’m betting I’ll end up with a single lamp type replacement because it doesn’t look like Liteco makes anything like the original. 😢

My first action before posting was email Carol. 😜

LED's come in various "color temperatures" with warm temperatures (incandescent bulb) being in the 3500 to 5000 Kelvin range.

Like yourself, my wife and I both despise the generic daylight LED lighting.  Our original PC-installed florescent lighting created a similar ambience, though not nearly as badly.  Getting the LED warm lighting eliminates that horrible ambience.

Like you say, the integrated night light is a very nice feature.  We did not have that in our original fixtures.  I added it during the LED conversion.  It was extra work, but well worth it.  The conversion for you would likely be a lot easier since your fixtures are already setup with night lights.  Just remove everything florescent-related and convert that portion alone.

One more thing I despised about our original florescent lighting was when the batteries needed charging, the florescent lights flickered.  It was ever so lightly, but enough to notice and irritate, and if left long enough, gave me a headache.

The ultimate solution for me was converting to LED with additional LED night lights.  It was a fun little project.  I converted the first one to learn from it, then precut wires and LED strips for mass production of the remaining 8 fixtures.  I still converted one fixture at a time, orienting each switch to light the main lighting towards me and the night light away from me, regardless of fixture orientation in our PC.  Those little extra details was part of the fun and resulting convenience.
