Levelers: What not to do!
« on: December 31, 2019, 10:32:52 pm »
Class A with levelers lifting rear wheels off the ground. There is no keeping the MH from falling off the levelers. The block on the front tire is not even against the tire! Don’t ever lift rear tires off ground.

Holly Cow!
This is a very true statement.  I just did this by accident and the pucker factor was high at the end result. I was leveling the coach and the rear end was down so I hit the automatic HWH kick-down levelers and they did what they were supposed to.  They raised the coach to level, I thought cool, but what I didn't realize is that the rear tires were almost off the ground and there wasn't much weight of the coach sitting on them. Well while i was out side setting up my wife was inside doing the same and the next thing I know is the coach started moving rearward at a very slow pace. I stood in silence as I watched the coach sit backwards on the tires. At this point I looked under the coach to see all 4 levelers had rotated so the landing pads were forward.  I figured I had really screwed up the system at this point so i hit store and brought up the levelers. The rams retracted and the levelers rotated up to there stored position. At this point I figured what the heck lets see if they still work and to my surprise they worked.
I inspected the levelers for damage and found that spring tension is the only thing that holds the levelers from rotating forward ( landing pads moving in the forward direction). So the statement  "don't lift the rear wheels off the ground"  should be posted at the leveler controller. Very unnerving feeling watching your coach fall off your levelers and all you can do is stand there.

I don't have levelers on my PC but from what I have read here, the HWH levelers PC used were "drive off" so if they got stuck down, you could "push" the coach and the HWH's would fold up (but not retract) so you could still use the coach, albeit without working levelers, until you got them repaired.   Surely there'd be a caution in the manual about properly blocking the wheels and/or not raising wheels off the ground.
