Remote Control Slide Operation

Has anyone added a remote control for there slide.  I want to be able to be outside when the slide opens, this way I can see that its clear of everything and that it comes out square to the coach. Just curious to see if anyone has came up with a way to do this? I've been looking at the control module for the Lippert/Schwintek slide, I don't think it would be difficult to add a remote controller.

No idea if you have someone with you when you put the slide out, but if you do... Then it seems to me, adding a remote control would be just adding something else that can break.

When I am concerned that I may hit something when I put the slide out, I open the window, ask my wife to go out and watch the clearance, and push the button.  Or vice-versa, she pushes the button and I watch from the outside.

That may or may not be an option for you.

Yes that is how we did it the last couple of times, but I would rather be outside pushing the button. Seeing as I can't do both things from outside I was wondering if anyone has came up with a remote for the slide.  Higher end coaches have remotes for slides, so I figure if they have it why not do the same thing. Higher end coaches also use a multi-plex wiring systems and some of these let you take the control pad with you and control everything. I would like to have that feature but PC has gotten to that point in the builds.

I don't have a slide out so I cannot examine one to determine if this idea is feasible.

Is there a place on the under-side of the slide out to mount a second switch wired in parallel with the original switch?  You would use it like this.  From the inside, open the slide out a couple inches to expose the outdoor switch underneath.  Then operate the slide-out from the outside.

Mounting the switch underneath, just inside the gaskets would protect it from water.

  If it is just for testing, 6 ea  insulated male and female 1/4 spade connectors and 150' of wire will allow you to have a 30' extension cord to work the slide. Check 12V current draw to size wire. Use a cordless drill to 'twirl' the lengths together for easy handling. Pop the original switch out, and refit on cord.  When you are done, remove extension, replace switch, and the wire goes back into 'project parts' bin for reuse later after testing.

Is this to be a permanent remote? Wireless interfaces are cheap, here is a two channel for under $20. Only handles 10A per specs,( I see 20A on the relay... ) but I am sure more robust examples are readily available. Or use external relays, etc. This bridges the wireless gap, however.  2o2

Have NO idea why there are 4 buttons on the remote.  (WH) May be 2 functions per channel?

Great idea but I just ordered a 12v wireless winch control, it should do the same thing, If I saw the one you found before I ordered the winch control I would have bought that one. The winch control was only $16.00, but the one you found has a junction box and 20 amp relays which will handle the load.  I will probably have to add relays to the one I bought. It should be here later tonight, gotta love Amazon..

Installed the winch controller and it works like a I hoped it would. The winch controller came from Amazon, I installed a couple relays I had and the junction box came from HD. Put a switch on it so I can turn it off when not in use. Velcro'd the remotes to the junction box, to help remind me to turn it off when I put the remote away. It was all plug and play I didn't have to cut any of the original wires.

Here is something I found out about having a remote control for your slide.  It allows you to be outside and pin your slide topper so you can remove it, clean and wax the top of your slide. Worked like a champ, now its a one person job.  (yahoo)
