another newbie question, Before I unplug the shore power to the RV and leave my RV site, should I turn off all the accessories drawing power and start the motor of the coach before I unplug the shore power. is there a sequence to follow or precautions to follow before unplugging from shore power.
We turn things off for two reasons:
1 - prevent a heavy load on the batteries if something is running off 12v directly or via inverter outlets (we keep our inverter off so this is being double sure)
2 - prevent a heavy load on the electrical system when we plug in again.
This is just our way. We've had the shore power go out then come back on with no issues, but again, our inverter is off unless we are using it so no big loads hit the batteries.
Note: once you get your generator going you want to follow the same "gentle" load reduction. Turn off all big items before starting or stopping the generator (electric heat, ac, etc - not the fridge, leave it on automatic - it will switch). We let the genny "smooth out" before putting a load on her.
