I took out the screen door so I could lag a 2x4 to the sturdy metal framework, after putting a notch where the horizontal TV plate would go, painting it to match the leatherette.
Then I attached the 1x10 pine board to the back of the 2x4 and attached the unit to the door frame.
I had to remove the inner panel of the remaining cabinet so I could put a 2x6 backer board for the beveled 2x6 to support the other end of the TV mounting board. I used the original PC mounting board as a template for the TV mounting screws, and was easily able to reach over the top to get to the screws.
Turns out, as always, the hardest part was getting started.
I'm going to create a magazine/map/brochure/misc rack for where the TV was, maybe even use the narrow cabinet door that remained after demo day. The DVD and Dish Wally fit snugly on a shelf I made for the charge station cabinet. Comes in and out by turning it sideways. Looks great with the door back on.
I also moved the center speaker to under the TV where it can actually be heard, reconnected the speaker wires so the former RR is now the RF, the LR is now the RR. the RF was removed to eventually become the LF, and the LF is now the LR, with no moving of any speaker wires, except the center speaker is hardwired at the speaker and had to be spliced.
Sounds great from the couch, looks right from the couch!
No more complaints on our 2551! Worth the effort... bonus high praise from the better half.
