CH751 Replacement Options
« on: October 15, 2018, 10:39:09 am »
I'd like to replace all th storage locks on my 2011 2551 with tubular cam locks like these (https://ch751.com/tubular-locks-ch751-replacement.html) or at least something uniquely keyed. I was quite surprised to find that PCs had locks that could be opened by near any RV owner on the road. :-( Disappointing. Still love my PC though. :-)

My question is has anyone done this before and can they offer any tips on achieving my goal. The site above has a guide for measuring all the parts for ordering and replacement but I started the process and it's quite time consuming and measurements aren't precise. I've queried the company to see if they have kits specific to different RVs but I'm betting their response is going to be 'no'.

What would REALLY be sweet would be for PC to respond with a list of measurements or part numbers I could use for this task but I doubt that's handy for them for an older unit.

Thoughts folks??

They can easily be changed out. A locksmith can also help. However, something to think about:
What is the total value of the stuff that you are locking up? The compartment doors are very thin and weak and can easily be pryed open using a simple screwdriver or similar instrument and the cost to replace or repair and paint the damage caused by forcing them open can exceed the value of the contents. I have replaced some of the 751 keyed locks with a simple non locking rotational latch which eliminates messing with keys.

This has been the norm for many years.  Do as you please, but in 35 years of RVing, 10 years of fulltiming, I have never experienced nor heard of anyone experiencing a theft because of this.
