Exterior maintenance
« on: August 24, 2018, 08:47:08 pm »
Hello. I am wondering what is the best way to clean and then preserve the exterior of my PC. Specifically, the fiberglass, the roof, all of the plastic coverings, plastics, and caulking.  So in your experience what is the best product to use for cleaning and then for preservation? Thanks a lot appreciate anybody’s help at all.

Also, it is my understanding that tires on RVs should be changed every six years regardless of mileage or if they have been stored indoors or not. Some of the comments I have read say that folks are leaving  tires on for quite a bit longer than six years. So, I guess what I’m asking is do I really need to spend a fortune pretty soon to replace all six tires when they seem to look OK?

Thanks so much. Appreciate any input.

Maggie

Read this about tires.
7 years is fine. But protect tires from sun. Use 303 30350 Aerospace Protectant 32oz twice a year on outside of tire, this prevents surface cracking.

I use 3M 09062 Marine Liquid Wax, 1 Liter once or twice a year on the exterior. After 10 years outside still has no oxidation and looks new. It is not that hard to apply.

I agree on the 303 for the exterior.

As to the tires, there are 2 things I will not scrimp on or take a chance on.   Tires and brakes.

Plain and simple,  A blowout on a tire besides making you lose control can injure or kill you.   Same with loss of brakes at a critical moment.

While yes, many people get 10 or 15 years on tires and have no problems, the simple fact is the tire compounds and materials start to break down after about 8 years no matter what the mileage is.   The longer you keep the tires and drive on them, the greater the risk of a total tire failure.

So the bottom line question is... How willing are you to risk your life (and other's lives) to save a few thoussnd dollars?
