Bedroom TV Signal

Happy July 4th all! We have a 2007 Phoenix Cruiser. We replaced the original TV in the bedroom with a 110V digital TV. The signal strength to the front TV is 75% - the signal strength to the bedroom TV is 25%. When using broadcast signals, the bedroom TV always receives less channels. My understanding is that they both run off the same cable... Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Possible bad connection?  I'd first check that the signal booster in the cabinet above the passenger seat is on.  If so, I would check the coax cable connection(s) to that booster (simply unscrew it and pull it out a bit) as well as any connection in the cabinet behind the bedroom TV.

Has this always been the case or just when you switched tv's?

Our 2007's signal booster in the cabinet to the right of the main TV is shoe-horned inside it's electric box with cables stressed badly.  If I ever have a problem like PC is describing, the first place I look will be there.  If my trouble is there, the first thing I will do is replace the electric box with a much bigger one.

PC, Maybe one of your stressed coax connections inside your booster box fractured and the weak signal is jumping across it.  A trouble-shooting tip would be to have both TVs on.  Have someone in back watching both TVs at the same time while another person gently bangs on the booster with their fist.  Be sure not to turn it off by accident by pressing the red button.  If the signal is erratic during the light pounding, you problem is there.

Thank you for your response, Mike. The booster is on. The onnections are tight. The previous TV was analogue so it was never used.

Good Morning, Ron. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. When following your suggestion no change occurred in the rear TV when banging. However, there seemed to be a signal response when the door was closed. I will investigate further. Thank you!

The only other info I can share is that in my new motorhome two things are going on:

- I receive much better signals (and more channels) on the Samsung and Sony TV's than on the Jensen and Insignia TV's.

- The coax coming from the antenna and the coax coming from the campground cable tv connection both go to the signal booster, then go from there to the TV's via splitters.  I don't think there are any other connections other than at the tv's themselves.

At least in my case I would look at the easily reachable connections, then the splitters (if any), then assess tv quality and finally the individual coax cables themselves.

Hi Again PC,

Do you have another TV at home that you could temporarily connect to see if the problem persists?  It is remotely possible the problem is inside the TV rather than the coax cable to it.

BTW, You mentioned when closing "The Door", the signal improved.  Which door were you referring to?  The glass windowed cabinet door where the signal booster is?  The main entry door?  Some other door?

Thank you for sharing that information, Mike. Interesting enough it's Samsung versus Insigna. The Insigna TV is getting less channels - you may very well be on to something here... We're on the road now - but will check the wiring when we get home to try to sort it out.

It sure is strange that the glass door where the booster is, if left open or closed changes the signal to the rear TV.  (WH)
