Gonna use the home phone in the PC
« on: September 16, 2016, 11:00:20 am »
We converted our home phone service to an AT&T home  (cell)phone with the little adapter you plug in and then you have the usual phones plugged in. Well if we are going to be gone a while we take it along. We have an added plug under the overhead cabinets in the kitchen near the sink, and the plan is to take the home phone and plug it in. Then we will not miss those cruise calls or the latest one the IRS scammers. And it is a nice way to call out and no one knows where you are. It has worked well in past travels. This change means that 2 cell phones and the home phone cost less than the old home phone was. A traveling home phone means we have received some good calls from friends and family esp at holiday time on the road.  Patricia

Since our house has good quality internet via our cable TV provider, we switched our brick & mortar house phone service to NetTalk, a carbon copy of MagicJack.  We pay around $40 a year for unlimited nation wide phone service.  It works extremely well with our Gigaset 300 wireless house phones which has an answering machine.  Our original Siemens wireless house phone system was not compatible with either MagicJack or NetTalk.  We bought a 1st replacement wireless house system which also had issues.  The 2nd attempt, the Gigaset 300 system works perfect.  And it works well with the old wired phones sprinkled around the house.

I wanted to drop the house phone altogether and reply exclusively on our cell phones, but my wife Irene wanted to keep the house phone so this was a great compromise.  I thank her for doing all the research trying the two different service providers and 3 different house phone systems to come up with a good working, very affordable home phone service.  I am glad Irene found a cheap means of keeping the house phone, especially now that I am retired.

This had to happen since Verizon cancelled the home phone and insisted we move to their fiber optic which would have been even a new line under my big drive way across the yard. And they had done a lot of damage and interruptions with neighbor's.. I refused... They tied up my number for 3 weeks. But I raised the roof and got it released. the new phone system cost  $99. Came with the system and 1 phone and charger. I bought othr phones and one set I had at home worked when plugged in too.It cost $25. A month and is USA and Canada calling..
I can pick it up and relocate to another house if we will be there a few days where the PC is parked. Or travel on the road. I have been amazed where it worked. We did 7,000 miles last summer in 6 weeks and wre never out of touch.
So for retired this is a good option and flexible. I did not want connected to house computer.
Options are always good and it cut the phone bill back a good ways. Discovered retired means old noodle has to keep working a while longer. Patricia
