And the pits just keep on coming

We got the water fixed; got to first RV park and toilet valve suddenly stays closed. It has been working fine, but here it is at 9pm somewhere near Indianapolis with a toilet just used and not working.

Is there a fix for this that doesn't require removing a porcelain Thetford foot pedal throne?  Please say there is.

Sorry I don't have a fix and no one here seems to yet.  If you haven't solved it yet this morning, maybe you can try posting over at the Escapees online forum.  I think I've seen you post there before.  It's a much bigger forum and I'm sure there are plenty of Thetford throne owners over there, hopefully some of whom will have insight.  Good luck and keep us posted!

Two Hams....I am sorry I have no answer for your situation.   I would be very careful about forcing anything since there are a lot of plastic parts in there that i am sure will break very easily. Does the bowl hold water?  I wonder if the slide is just not hanging up on the rubber seal?  did you keep fluid (antifreeze) in the bowl all winter?  The seals will dry out

Thanks guys. Kudos to a very very busy Camping World of Indianapolis in Greenwood IN for working s in.  Although we have been using the toilet successfully for weeks, the sliding "flap" or valve decided to become stuck.  The CW tech fixed it in less than 5 minutes...and no charge!!  As Willie says, 🎼🎶We're on the road again!🎶🎶😁😁🐶🐶. People, this was the most professional CW service dept. that we have ever seen in our 17 years of RVing.   2o2.      :)(:

So glad for you being on the road again !      Did the  tech.  mention what the issue was  ?    Many here would probably like to know.   Preventative measures  ?

We had a similar problem and went to the RV show in Tampa and talked to the Thetford rep.  The Thetford rep turned one of the toilets upside down so we could see how it works.

When you step on the foot pedal it triggers the valve (looks like a rotating ball) to pivot on two pins underneath the valve.  As a maintenance item we now spray silicon at the pivot points and direct the spray underneath the valve at the two pins.  This lubricates the pins and allows the valve to open and close smoothly.

So glad CW was able to fix it for you.  Enjoy your trip and safe travels.

Thanks to all of you for posting the problem and solutions on this issue.

I do have a suggestion (which I will try to follow in any future postings I make) is to make the "Topic" descriptive of the issue being raised.  This might help other members find these posts in the future if the issue comes up again.  In this case a "Topic" called "Toilet valve stays closed" might be easier to find later.

Out of curiosity, did you see how the tech at CW released the valve?

Hello from Ft. Boonsboro State Park near Richmond, KY.   Bruce, point well taken on a more relevant topic.  (WH). It's our show biz genes working overtime. The tech first made sure the water pump was off, then he pressed the pedal about 2-3 times in quick succession and, viola! The valve sprang open.  Even though we have always kept water in the toilets in all our RVs and have been using this one for several weeks his best guess was perhaps no lubrication by previous owners and/or pieces of scale from the fresh water tank never being descaled from years of Florida water. NOTE: Florida folks...se love going to Florida 2o2. Anyhow, the CW service tech suggested occasional silicone spray on the valve if dry and/or a small dollop of cooking oil from time to time.

Thanks everyone for looking in on us. Hopefully Suzanne will update and continue our blog which started when we "graduated" to fulltime rving in the Escapees Class of 2006.  :)(:
