Ron... you worry me sometimes. Only a car guy would say vehicle emissions smell "friendly." I can't even begin to put fumes and friendly together in my brain.

When driving down the freeway I always pull into the truck stops and wander over to where the big rigs are parked -- I love the sounds of the big diesel engines as they idle and 'AAhh' the wonderful aroma of the diesel fumes :)

Even though I love diesel engines I decided to go with the gas V10 for my RV because I have heard good things about its reliability. I love my diesel pickup but its engine has certainly had its problems over the years.

That reminds me of an interesting problem that could affect any engine. Several years ago on a chilly day in December while parked at work, some squirrels decided to make a meal of the insulation on my engine's electrical wiring -- very expensive repair required. I have read on the internet that some wiring uses soy in the insulation that rodents like to eat. So if you see some of those critters hanging around the front end of your PC watch out.

About fumes and such, I remember going to high school, enjoying the smell of the CTA bus pulling away after i got off.  Today my senses flipped 180 degrees.  Irene and I both find it difficult to be around old diesel truck fumes and even cigarette smoke.  I would have thought to be more tolerant as we get older.  But other things like burning leaves this time of year is such a welcomed aroma in the air.  Strange how we are more sensitive to some smells, but others have become therapeutic.

This getting old gets weird.

In the summer my PC is stored outside on a farm. One year all my wiring got eaten up by some kind of animal. They ate right through a bundle of wires including the wire. I was able to find and fix all but one wire which I couldn't find. It was the transmission trailer haul feature. I had to go to a truck garage and they found and fixed it.

I read up on the problem and followed their recommendation. Buy a 4 oz bottle of 100% pure Peppermint Oil from Amazon. Each time I store I soak some cotton balls with the oil and put them near wiring in several places under the hood. The RV sits outside there for about 6 months.
I have not had any more problems but maybe they just leave me alone now.

Last year I had  yellow jackets build a huge nest above the refrigerator. I killed them with bug spray and dug out the 2' x 2' x 4" high nest.
