Myrtle Beach Recommendations

John and I have decided to celebrate our 40th anniversary at Myrtle Beach. If anyone has been there and has a campground to recommend we would be most appreciative.  TIA. 

PS Dog friendly is a must

We stayed at Huntington Beach SP years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.  Close enough to Myrtle Beach to make a day trip and still enjoy the campground at night. Pet friendly, I don't remember as it didn't apply to us. It does fill up fast so you're best to check their reservation site for your dates.

We tent camped at Huntington Beach when I was a kid. They had a lot of gators. They used to hand feed them from the causeway and even after the official feeding stopped, you could see chicken packages in the gazebo where random people still fed them years later so the gators knew to go to people for food in that area. We never saw them in the actual campground though they were in our thoughts when we "slept" behind canvas walls.

There is a partially built house or "castle" in the state park. The husband was building it for Anna Huntington who died before it was finished. We really enjoyed wandering the sculpture garden near the park which has a lot of her work as well as others. There is an admission fee.

Thanks garmp and 2 Frazzled!  I’ve never heard of Huntington Beach. When I was kid we vacationed in Cherry Grove as my folks felt Myrtle Beach was too busy.  I haven’t been there in over 50 years so am sure I won’t recognize the place.

I have not been for awhile but will go back in November.  During the season there are restrictions on when the dogs can be on the beach.  All my visits have been in November when the rules relax and the crowds are gone.
