Screening
« on: May 13, 2015, 07:33:52 pm »
Has anyone crafted or know of a screen for the emergency exit window?  We would like to open it and have a light screen over it.  Obviously, we want something that can be removed quickly.  Thanks.

Your emergency window does not open for normal air circulation?  Or does it open normal but does not have a screen?
Our emergency exit window opens for normal use so it has a screen.  It is not the current day design.  It slides to the side to open for normal operation, hinged at the top for emergencies.  Call the factory and see if they have a way to meet your request.

Here is our emergency window.

It is the one in the back.  It is hinged at the top.

oh nice - no, we have a 2015, 2350 and it's the side window.  It does not stay open and there is no screen.  The factory can not address this for "code" reasons.  Thanks.

"Code" reasons?  I wonder if the code was revised since 2007, not allowing an emergency window to open any other way.

Talk about "Code", the government should address stabilizer bars, shocks, and steering stabilizers, all should be heavy duty versions for every motor home chassis.  That would be a code of real value for driving safety.

On our 2008 2350 the emergency window looked just like Rons' but must have been different because the emergency portion of the window did not have a screen.  This widow was a two-part window, one portion used for emergency (hinged on top) and the other portion was a sliding window and did have a screen.   This is very similar to our 2012 2551, it too is a two-part window, one portion is hinged at the top (emergency portion) without a screen and the other portion swings out slightly and does have a screen. In each case, the window had an emergency exit portion and a ventilation portion.  The ventilation portion on both of our PC's were equipped with a screen the emergency exit portion did not have a screen.

What window in your unit is considered the emergency window?  Your profile says a 2100 but it looks like you might have a 2350.  Does your emergency window have two portions or is it all one large emergency window?  If it does have two portions maybe the screen was missed on one small portion of it.  Or maybe it is just a true emergency window due to its size and for code reasons cannot have a screen.

You could make a screen that attaches to the frame with magnets or velcro.  www.theskeeterbeater.com makes screens for truck windows (driver and passenger) that attach with magnets.  If you don't want to make one yourself, maybe they do custom sized screens that would fit your emergency exit window?

We have a 2015 2551 and the driver's side bed is the emergency exit.  There is also a screen for the "crank out" lower portion of the window where you can turn the knob to open it.    only 1 handle on that window.  The window on the opposite side has 2 crank out knobs.

We made a screen and use Velcro to hold it in place. We use a small dowel rod to hold the window open at about a 45o. If you open it too wide the window will fall out and be near impossible to put back in. It is designed to do that.
