...so I called Kermit and he walked me through testing to see if it was the GCFI and how to wire it properly. I had the hot wires and the load wires backward. I had the white on the silver screws and the black on the bass crews which is correct but with the two wires backward it would not work.

So WHITE=HOT???  BLACK+GROUND???  I can see how you got it backwards as that is not the way a house is wired.  White at home is always ground.  But I suppose BLACK=GROUND on the battery terminals so that must get carried throughout the rig then.

I learned something here.

Ron, every house that I've assisted in wiring, all 3 of them, the black was ground and the white was neutral. Usually red is the hot. This is the way our current and previous house were wired by licensed pros.....

In my brick & mortar houses, I've always had two wires, (black or red or other colors) and white.  White eventually finds it's way into the ground via a water pipe or similar.  Colored wire including black goes to the breaker box.  It is common for odd colors to represent temporary on, for example between light switch and ceiling fixture.

The 3rd round prong gets grounded via metal junction box & conduit.  Unlike much of the USA, we are not allowed to use open rubber-coated Romex wiring, I believe to protect the wiring from rodents....a long-ago Chicago-originated requirement.

Ron the black wire is the hot wire and the white is the ground. What I had backward was there are two sets of wires (one black and one white in each set), one set is the line in (hot) and the other is the line out (load) to the TVs and Kitchen sink. I hope this clears up what I wrote earlier.

Oh....I got it Tom!  That makes sense.

That is a very easy mistake to make.  I'll have to make a mental note the next time I replace one.

Thanks Tom.

All is fixed now. It is 37 degrees out, not quite freezing but cold and windy. The rains stopped from yesterday so I got the gray water dump valve motor back on the valve. Thanks to Barry for his post about the gear, I called the factory and they sent me a new gear for free.

Thank you Berry.  tymote
