Camping in Alabama

Does anyone have suggestions for camping in Alabama over the next two weeks? Keep in mind the higher altitudes might be a bit too nippy. One park we looked at is closed until they get power back and reopen the roads... yikes! We are inclined to hop back to Georgia due to our favorable experiences there but we hear Alabama has great parks also and would like to check them out. We will be traveling in a north/northeast type of route with an expected hard run up to West Virginia for a (chilly) wedding on March 16. We will be wandering the somewhat warmer climes until then. We are in the far west Florida panhandle at the moment.

We stayed at Corp of Engineers campground near Eufaula, AL.  White Oak (Creek).  It is on a lake and a nice stop.
Most COE Parks are really nice. 
Thanks for the great dinner when we got together.

Alabama has "higher altitudes"? This NH boy would have never guessed. After three major snow storms in the last week all of our peaks are about 5 feet taller! Today our Mt Washington is a balmy 15 degrees with 60 mph winds. Enjoy Alabama.

Hey, Cheaha Mountain is 2,413 feet tall - compare that to Florida. Cheaha is one of the state parks that looked cool to visit until I saw the park alert: "Due to inclement weather we received on February 11th and 12th the Park is closed until further notice. If the power is restored and roads are opened we could possibly open on February 18th, but doubtful. Two active phone numbers are 256-488-5111 and 1-800-610-5801. Call before you come."

Mmmmmmmmmm, maybe later. I'll bet it will be really peaceful those first few days they are open. That posting is still on there today so they are still closed.

We are currently in the Good Sam cg in Decatur Alabama, not to be recommended, assuming you can find it, took us for ever. We are opposite what I believe is a refinery.  We spent a night last week in the White Oaks site and found it very nice.
