Finally weighed my 2551

We are on a trip up the Oregon coast and noticed that even when the highway weight stations were closed the scales were operational and the weight displays were on.  So it was easy and cheap to pull off and check the weight, did it at two locations and got the same numbers.

My 2010 2551 was fully loaded with fuel, water, supplies, towing our Jeep, etc.  The front axle was 4400 lbs and the rear axle was 8000 lbs.  The total of 12,400 compared to 14,500 GVWR leaves a healthy cushion of 2000 lbs cargo carrying capacity.  Also, with the Jeep Wrangler weighing in at 4100 lbs, the total when towing of 16,500 compared to 20,500 GCWR leaves a large margin for towing.

I am impressed with the weight distribution that Phoenix Cruiser designed into this RV,  the front axle weight of 4400 lbs is 88% of the 5000 lb rating and the rear axle weight of 8000 lbs is 84% of the 9500 lb rating.  Both axles are loaded to approx the same percentage.

Now with actual axle weights, I can determine the appropriate tire pressures using the Michelin load inflation tables.  I could safely go down to 65 front, 70 rear; I tried that but it felt a little mushy for my taste,  I went up to 70 front, 75 rear and it feels fine with better handling than the door label amount of 75 front, 80 rear.  I will probably play around with the pressures more before finally deciding on what is best for my 2551.
