PC3100 Slide Leaks while driving.
« on: June 24, 2022, 10:22:26 pm »
We have a 2019 PC3100 and we are currently traveling to Alaska (our 4th time but 1st with PC) and have had a lot of rain.  And we have gone thru a lot of beach towels and rugs from rainwater getting in the slide and running down onto the floor.  It only seems to happen when the slide is in, parked  or driving.  We haven’t noticed the leaking when the slide is out and we have rain.  Don’t know how it is getting in but when I got up to look at the slide seal (when in) there is water behind the seal.  So the movement of the rig causes that water to either drain off the back and/or the front of the slide.  But I need to figure out how the water is getting in - any thoughts are good, especially if you have had the same problem.

We have a 2018, 3100 also and we have not had any problems with water getting inside with the slide open or closed.  Have you checked the top of your slide before you close it to see if water has gotten on top of it while it is open?  We have found that the slide awning topper that PC uses on the 3100 is barely long enough to cover the top of the slide and if there is any wind blowing when it is raining, water can accumulate on top of the slide.  Also, when it is raining, a small amount of water can accumulate on the awning topper itself and when the slide is brought in, it is possible for some of that water to run off the end of the slide awning topper and get on the slide's top or end panels.

As a result of experiencing similar issues on an earlier RV, we purchased a collapsible ladder and an extendable handled squeegee that we use to remove any water that has accumulated on the top of the slide awning topper AND/OR on top of the slide before we close the slide on our PC.  It is just one of our steps in our closing procedures that we check if we have had rain while we have the slide open.  An option for you to try if you are unable to check the slide's top before closing is to have towels ready when you close the slide and lay them on the top of the slide to absorb any water that may have accumulated on the top of the slide as you bring it in.

The only way to prevent water from accumulating on the top of the slide is to replace the slide awning topper with one that it approximately 6" longer that will hang over each end 3" which would prevent water from getting on the slide's top.  We did this on an earlier RV and the problem was resolved.

Hope this idea helps.

We had a 2910 with leaks at the slide and near the slide. Not sure these would necessarily be the same as your problem, but it may be worth going and searching for my posts.

Free2RV:  No we are familiar with water being on top of the slide when it is open and it rains and we too check that before bringing the slide in.  And if it is still raining when we bring the slide in we wipe the excess off the top.  But our issue is water leaking in when the slide is closed and mostly if driving in rain.

WillLloyd:  will check your posts out.

Typically, what causes slide leaks, especially while driving, is the Seals on the front (towards the front of the chassis) and/or the top of the slide.

The slide needs to be adjusted up/down, in/out and side to side.  Very definaty should be done by someone with lots of experience doing those adjustments to your particular brand of slideout.

Obviously I would recommend PC do it, but that's problematic depending on where you live and when they could get you in their shop.

Hello Donc13
That may apply to slides prior to the Lippert (Schwintek In-Wall Slide-Out) that was installed in 2017 and current. The only adjustment on that slide is the rollers under the slide, which raise and lower the slide to keep the lower inside edge of the slide from contacting the floor inside when the slide is pulled in. That slide runs in or out and uses hall effect sensors to stop the slide motors. So when it senses that the motors have stopped rotating it stops the slide. If they are having a leak while driving, I agree with what you said in regards to the forward seal or upper seal, they are the most likely culprits and need to be inspected. There is however no slide adjustment that can be done to correct the leak, it all relies on the seals.
Very Respectfully
Lance

Try applying chalk to the outer seals on either the sidewall opening or slideout. Fully retract then extend it, then inspect the seals for voids where the chalk didn’t transfer. A trip to the weatherstripping aisle at Home Depot might present a temporary fix or permanent solution. Good luck.
