5 Star Tune
« on: November 02, 2020, 05:33:43 pm »
Bought the 5Star tune for my 2004 Phoenix Cruiser 2350. It is the 2 valve V10 with 4 speed transmission.
We pull a 2000 Wrangler TJ for the toad.
Just got back from a 600 mile round trip from central Kansas to the Ozarks and back.
The 5 Star tune made a major improvement especially on hills. I can actually speed up going up a big hill.
Shift points seem better and smoother.
Engine seems to run a bit cooler.
Like others have said, it is much easier to get up to speed when merging on to the interstate.
Engine seems to run smoother and quieter.

Glad I got the tune!  2o2

Same experience here.  Tiny bit lower mpg, maybe 1 or 2 10ths lower mpg but the driveability is well worth it.   Last several trips over the continental divide in Colorado (i-70) could keep speed at least 56 whereas before the 5 star, low 40's was the max.

Cnorth--

Unfortunately I am not the best person to answer this for you since I haven't yet installed a 5 Star Tune in my unit.  Since you haven't yet received an answer, I'll try to provide a basic description, but I feel sure that one of our forum members that have installed it (Donc13??) will check in with a better first hand account.

In any case the 5 Star Tune is a modification to the program in the ECM (computer module) of your Ford E350 powertrain.  It is normally acquired as a module that you plug into your OBD diagnostic port which then downloads the tuning program into your ECM.  The program then supersedes the original Ford program to control various parameters of your engine and drive train to improve performance and driveability.

Rather that my trying to provide more specifics, if you will search on 5-Star Tune, you will reach the website for the product which will provide a much more complete advertisement for what it can provide.  Based on my reading of various reviews and accounts over time, the results seem to be pretty much universally reported as worthwhile.

Welcome to the forum, and all the best,        Mike

It's new settings for the computer that controls your engine and transmission.  It comes pre-loaded on a tool that plugs into your OBDC below the steering wheel.  It increases the performance of the engine a bit but it also changes the shift points for the transmission so it's much smoother shifting, shifts out of overdrive sooner when going uphill, then shifts back into overdrive once you start to level out.

That's the quick answer, for a more complete answer, go to www.5startuning.com

Oh yea, the 5 star tune modification is not legal in California, they will not ship to a California address.

Used the 5-star in my 2006 2350, Transformed it. Highly recommend it.

Shifting is So much nicer, and power went up. No more 2-gear downshifts.  (cheer)

I drive like a salt flats driver 90% of the time, so no difference in mileage.  roflol

It reads and copies the ECM program you have in your rig. It saves that, and then installs its own program.

You can always revert back to the original should it be desired.

You can ONLY use it on one rig at a time. Until you re-write the first to stock again, it wont reprogram a second.
