CH751 Lock Replacement
« on: June 08, 2020, 08:58:24 pm »
Well I did it, I got rid of the CH751 locks and went to Industrial Lock and Hardware to get the replacements. I bought 8 tubular cam locks, added locks to the generator, LP tank , both water fills, outside shower and gas door. It was a real simple process, there online form makes it easy to ensure you get the correct locks. I didn't buy there lock covers instead I got some from Ebay for half the price.  So now all the CH751 locks are keyed with those round coke machine keys. I never had issues with people opening or getting into any compartment I just figure why make it easy. I also know some people would never lock there LP or generator but I would... To each his own...

If you are thinking about doing this, Industrial Lock and Hardware were great and the shipping was super fast. It took maybe 30-45 minutes to complete the job, and it looks good, plus all the locks have a cover to protect them from water and dirt.

All the 8 locks I installed are keyed alike. It still leaves the entry door, slam locks and spare tire lock keyed differently.  The thing for me is to remove the CH751 locks, as everyone has a key that can open them. Locks help keep honest people honest....

Aint that the truth.   (nod)   Had a bunch broken into on a lot south of us. The 751 key wasnt an issue, too slow anyway. They had a flatbar that popped the doors open like pop-tops on a soda can. The owner of the lot was thankful that the method was relatively easy to repair, most just required bending of the latch arms.

The most damage happened on the doors that were hardest to open.  They destroyed the slam-latch ones.

Volk , yup, if they want in make no mistake they will get in.  Most barrel locks can be beat with a pen barrel and if they think for some reason you have something in there they want they won’t care if they damage the door. Kind of like locking a rag top when all they do is slice open the top costing a couple grand.  Damn thieves are simply that.. thieves .

Unfortunately, once a thief has zero'd in on your vehicle, the best you could have done is to leave every lock unlocked.  Better they steal the portable grille, tools, food, whatever, instead of damaging the motor home.

Still we lock up our PC to keep the "curious" out.  Like EngineerIt stated, locks help keep honest people honest.
