Replaced A 2011 2551 Awning Before?
« on: July 13, 2020, 10:01:58 am »
Trying to be proactive and find part numbers etc. to replace my rig’s Dometic awning;  917GL.16.0908. I can’t find what I need using the current model number So I contacted Dometic directly.

That was a month ago. Once a week I receive a single email from them apologizing for the delay, blah blah, and the they ask a single question; can I send a pic of the label, what part of the awning do I want to replace, an on and on.

Has anyone replaced their ‘like’ awning on a 2551? Do you have part/ordering info you can share?

I haven't replaced an awning, but I have had a very similar experience with Dometic customer support. I have been emailing them for months regarding a question about my furnace thermostat (which obviously I have not tried to use in many months now); after several weeks I got a response asking for model numbers etc, which I promptly sent. A few weeks later I got an email from them asking for the same thing again. I sent it all again. I then got an email apologizing for the delay. That was about 2 months ago. Covid-19 or not, their customer service sucks, especially since there is no reason they can't provide that service while in isolation working at home. If I have a choice I won't buy any Dometic products in the future.

Dometic is an international company based in Netherlands and own many, many brands in the RV industry.   I would guess it's next to impossible to find a motorhome or trailer that doesn't contain Dometic devices.

If I were replacing I would use the new electric awning that PC has used since 2012, Is your that type or the old lightweight box awning?
I would just call Carol at PC and buy from her, she probably has the best price.

Got this weeks Dometic response today. It’s obvious I’m talking to a gatekeeper who is just passing on info fro the back office.

Today she tells me this awning is obsolete and I’ll have to replace the whole thing with a Dometic 915NS16.000b but needs me to measuree Ed my “back channel” for them. Didn’t say why. Now I’m hunting awning exploded views to find out what the back channel is. If I ask her it will be next week before I get an answer. I think it’s the Chanel sections attached to the wall of the RV.

And I did contact Carol.
