Phoenix USA Wheel Simulator Conversion to Bolt On
« on: March 06, 2020, 03:54:56 pm »
Hello
I figured I would start a new thread on these Phoenix Wheel Simulators, as it shows how to convert them to bolt on.  So if you have issues with your clip on wheel simulators like I did you can make them bolt on.

Parts Required:
1. PNF12STX Stud extension                             8 ea,   $3.99 ea
2. PNF98LNT Jam Nut (chrome lug with nut)     8 ea,   $6.99 ea
3. 7/8" AN washer, stainless steel (flat washer)  18ea,  $.50 ea
4. AML-1, tire valve extension (optional)               1ea,  $52.99 kt

Items 1, 2, and 4 were purchased through Summit.  I found them to be cheaper as I got shipping free.
Item 3, I picked up from my local fastener supply store (Pinellas Fastener)

Once I understood how Phoenix USA bolted on there simulators I figured that the clip-on type couldn't be much different. The only real difference besides having the clip ring is it didn't have the smaller mounting holes where the fake lug nuts were (holes located opposite each other, in place of 2 fake lug nuts).

So here is how I made it work.
1. Remove 2 fake lug nuts opposite each other. I accomplished this by using vise-grips and just bending the rolled edge straight and then pulling the fake lug off. I took my time it was the worst part.

2. I took the stud extension and threaded it onto the thread that stuck out past the lug nut, and added 2 flat washers to each stud extension (for spacing and a stop for the nut). Note if you don't have 3 threads past the lug nut for the stud extension to thread on to you need to purchase a thinner lug nut, part #139987.

3. Installed the simulator over the stud extensions and added another flat washer ( this traps the simulator between the flat washers as the holes in the simulator are larger then the bolt on type). Also I never removed the clip ring, so my simulators are clipped and bolted.

4. installed the chrome jam nut and the job is done....

AWESOME writeup!

I was fortunate to have an old (2007) PC, so the bolt-on were standard. LOVE them.

But... when i did my front brakes, the autozone front discs had studs that were about 1/8 shorter on the threaded part.  :beg

I did not fully 'appreciate' this until installing the wheel covers, and finding some of the hold down nuts did not have enough thread engaging.

REALLY wish i had known of the shorter lug nut, I milled ~1/8" off the top of the lug nuts. PITA. THANKS for the info!

And is it just irony the brand of the lug nut you posted was Phoenix ?!?!? roflol

I believe my 2019 2552 came with the bolt on simulators. I was supplied a tool and this instruction manual.
