Reading Water Tank Level While Filling Tank

Has anyone come up with a remote flesh water level readout that can be read while standing at the water fill port?

You can buy a small inline water flow meter and monitor it that way. Attaches to the hose or bib. Nice to know how much you've used as opposed to what the reading inside. I use this one, works great.

If you are only going for a few days, you might want only 10 gallons...you know that you have ten gallons. If you are filling, you have a 50 gallon tank, when you get close to that you slow the flow.  Been gone 4 days...and you add 25 you get an idea of your usage. Put in 16 gallons and see if your sensor indicates 1/3.

what 2 lucky said. Many times if I'm only going say two days before full hook ups I only carry enough water for the toilet. I don't want to carry several hundred pounds of extra weight thats not needed. We never use the on board water for drinking or cooking.

Well... OK then.

I always fill it, from home, I use an adapter and fill the passenger side direct to the tank fill and wait for bubbles out the vent.

On the road, while I am hooked up, I turn the 4 way valve to fill and go around and open the passenger side fill and wait for the water.

I do use the fresh water tank for cooking, drinking, showers and flushing.  I just wait till the sensors say I only about a 3rd left and refill next chance.

But I will keep that meter in mind, it's certainly inexpensive.

We also drink and cook with our onboard water, unless we have to get some that really stinks.  We have a Brita that fits perfectly in the fridge and removes the tank taste. Cold clean water to drink is always nice.  Nothing helps if you have to get water at Lake Havasu City tho.

Showers and toilet washing dishes are all we use the tank water for. Not a chance I would drink from it. 

If you sanitize it properly first it is no issue. Granted, I usually can take reliable from home for most of our excursions. I personally hate to add to the plastic water botttle waste, only if necessary.  I actually prefer my water to have some hops in it, the more the better

I also like to know how much water is in the freshwater tank while filling. This only works if the freshwater tank is right behind the outside compartment, but I cut a window in the back of the compartment and used a piece of clear lexan for the window.

In a pinch, you could attach about 3ft of clear hose to the fresh water drain and U-turn it up the side of the PC. Either hold it temporarily or tape it to the side of the RV.  Next, open the drain valve.  Gravity will fill it to the same height as the tank's contents.
