New Cruisers headed West?

Seeing other Cruisers on the road is rare enough, but three in a caravan? Wow!

We're currently making a big loop from Houston to Rushmore, Yellowstone, the Tetons, and Colorado.  We were traveling West on I-90, out of Deadwood for Devil's Tower, when I saw three RV's in the mirror, passing everything in sight, and coming up fast.  I was watching the mirror, and thinking, "Hey, a Cruiser!", when the lead guy honked three times and zoomed on by.  I wished I'd thought to check the plates.  They all seemed pretty new.  I think the first one was on an E-450 and the rest E-350's.  I recognized the last one as a 2350, but not sure about the others.  None were towing or had bikes, which seemed odd.  And you don't often see a Motorhome traveling 80 (the speed limit in SD)!

Does PC deliver?  Anybody on the West Coast expecting a shipment?

I'll bet that those were factory models heading for the FMCA rally RV show in Gillette Wyoming.  July 18th start I think.

You bring up a great point. 80mph, not the way I would want my new PC broken in. Pick it up at the factory, or have it put on a transport. Just my thoughts.

This is all the Ford manual says about break-in.  Says vary speed and don't drive "too fast" during the first 1000 miles.  So...is 80, on occasion, too fast?  My guess is that factory reps are not gonna abuse the vehicles.

You need to break in new tires for
approximately 300 miles (480
kilometers). During this time, your vehicle
may exhibit some unusual driving
characteristics.
Avoid driving too fast during the first 1000
miles (1600 kilometers). Vary your speed
frequently and change up through the

80mph on the level?  Maybe 2400rpm.  80mph up a steep hill?  Not going to happen

I generally stay below 70, usually below 65 but some highways in the west 80mph is just coasting along.  IMHO 80mph on a western interstate is just normal.  Actually in much of South Dakota, Wyoming & Montana the posted speed limit is 80 mph.

Sorry, didn't mean to raise eyebrows on the speed.  It was just a guess.  They just passed me easily at my usual 65, which started me wondering if it was a company caravan, since most folks are more worried about their gas mileage than getting somewhere in a hurry.  Nobody was driving crazy, or abusing any PC's -- they were just movin' down the road with an air of authority!

By the way, Yellowstone was fun.  Missed Rushmore, tho, due to fog that refused to lift all day. Nice to be back to civilization.  It's amazing how addicted we've become to Internet and cell phones.Funny, I never felt like anything was missing back in the 80s'!  But apparently, Verizon users get to visit Yellowstone in the 21st century.  With ATT, we were in a time warp!   
 

Can’t imagine at 80mph what the tach reads on a Ford V10, pedal must been on the floor an hitting the rev limiter for sure maybe  4 mpg.  It’s just  driver abuse in a RV.  Senseless

Have you driven a PC at 80mph?  I have.  It purrs like a kitten at that speed....a sweet spot.  We don't drive above 70, but once in a great while when not using Cruise Control, I catch myself at 80.  Some of my experience might be related to the different rear axle ratio we have in our 2007.  I heard that as of late, Ford has been putting the E450 axle ratio into the E350.  Maybe that has influenced your comment.

I can relate.  Our trip last month we pulled into the parking garage, walked up the steps and through the arch.  The look on my wife's face was priceless.  I seriously thought she was going to cry.  Nothing but grey fog.  I suggested we go elsewhere and come back.  Her reply was she was sitting on that bench right there until the fog lifted and she did not care how long it took.  Now, some folks have commented over the years that she can be a bit stubborn, I'm not sure where they got that idea..............

Fortunately the fog did lift for a few minutes, not completely but enough that I managed  to convince her we had seen it.

Not honestly sure if it was 'fog' or 'cloud'.  Since the mountain is about 5,700 feet high it might just have been cloud cover.  But regardless, trying to pick out grey stone faces inside a grey cloud was interesting............

Apparently, they're having a rainy year.  The guy at the RV park said it had been fogged in three days the previous week.  We hung around all day, looking at other stuff, and by afternoon it cleared off and was a clear blue sky at Custer Park, so we headed back to Rushmore.  But no luck, the closer we got, the foggier it got and we had to give it up. But we really enjoyed  "Fish and Fry" RV park in Deadwood.  And I got a great pic of Harley's parked in the Senior Center parking lot at Sturgis (there was a bar across the street). Since it took this old Harley rider 40 years to finally make it to Sturgis, it was my favorite pic of the whole trip.  I managed to get my "ride" in the shot, too (the PC).  It's been a good trip, sorry to see it end.
