« on: May 19, 2018, 01:02:04 pm »
Hopefully, I will take delivery of a new Phoenix Cruiser Model 3100 within the next two months.

I would appreciate any suggestions Phoenix Cruiser Owners can provide regarding RV Insurance Companies you would recommend for full timers.

Thank You In Advance!!!

John

Not sure about full time but I checked rates several places and The Hartford through AARP was significantly lower.  I have been with State Farm my whole life so I tried there and they were not even in the ball park.  After I saw the Hartford's rates on the RV I checked the rate for my car.  The Hartford was 30% higher than State Farm.

So the car is with State Farm and the RV is with The Hartford.

Progressive is very RV user friendly. Not sure about full-time, but for us, the best price. Had one accident and they were incredibly responsive and our rates did not go up.  Good luck and congrats on the new RV!

We used to have Good Sam insurance for all our vehicles because they had the best rate back when we had a Freightliner for a tow vehicle for our fifth wheel RV.  When we got our DP motorhome we continued with them.  Then when Susie had an encounter with our car and a deer, we found out that the insurance company that Good Sam uses (National General) didn't have any adjusters in Michigan to look at the damage to the car and that they would have to contact a third party adjuster to look at it.  After two weeks and repeated calls to National General they finally arranged for an adjuster to look at the car.  The Honda dealership said they had never had such slow response as they did with National General.  They suggested Auto Owners insurance because of their experiences with them, so we called some other body shops and got the same response.  Upon checking, we found out that their rates with better coverage than we had with National General were the same as we had been paying, so we switched to Auto Owners.  Maybe others have had different experiences with National General, but ours wasn't too good.  We were glad our accident experience was close to home so we weren't stranded without a vehicle for over a month like we were with this accident.

I am a Licensed P&C Agent with over 26 companies. Here is a rundown on what to look for in RV Insurance. Here is a breakdown on what you get with a Progressive policy which I consider the best company for these reasons.

1: Go with a company that does a separate RV Policy, not a add on to your car insurance

2: Full total loss replacement: You can only select this for newly purchased RVs one model year old or newer. If it’s totaled within 5 model years, you will get what it costs to buy a brand new RV (similar model). And yes, that’s the full cost, even if it costs more than what you originally paid for your RV.

Once your RV is outside the five-model year window, we will give you the original purchase price you paid for your RV (this will always be in writing in your policy documents).

Agreed value: We offer this for select RVs. With this, you basically tell us the value of your RV, and together we’ll agree on a payout number for a total loss. The agreed value will always be in writing in your policy documents, and we won’t depreciate or change this value for up to 10 policy periods.

Market value: You can select this no matter how old your RV is. We’ll give you cash for your RV’s estimated market value.

3: Full Time Rv insuraance is tricky, most companies do not write it, Progressive does

4: Emergency expense:If your travel plans are interrupted, Progressive will give you up to $750 for transportation and hotel expenses. If you’d like you can add more coverage

5:Vacation liability : This pays for injuries that happen at your vacation site, in your RV or the area around your RV up to $10,000. You can add more coverage if needed.

6:RV roadside assistance: If your RV breaks down (within 100 feet of the road), we’ll pay to tow you to the nearest repair shop. You pay nothing out of pocket.

7: Full coverage for belongings & personal items: You can get full replacement cost for belongings inside your RV up to $99,000. Replacement cost means that we will give you what it costs to buy new belongings and not the depreciated, estimated value of used items.

8: Besides Comprehensive & collision, Personal Liability and Medical Payments these are the main features of a GOOD RV Policy

PS: Yes I have a Progressive RV Policy and I had access to over 15 companies to choose from.

Go here to read up on all of the features offered by Progressive:
https://www.progressive.com/rv/rv-coverages/

I hope this helps

I use Good Sam, no one else came anywhere close in my case. Progressive was over twice the cost for less coverage in my case. I do wonder if some of it is based on where a person lives.  I think a bigger concern for a full timer will be health insurance. Last I read there is only one company that offers full timers coverage?

When I said we were with Progressive I should have elaborated.
Like Jim Deane, my son-in-law is an insurance agent for numerous companies and had irons all the research. Rembere, you don’t want the cheapest, but the best.

We went with Progressive. We were unlucky and got a big stone chip on our windshield last summer and Progressive had our windshield replaced. We had no deductible to pay. It’s included in the policy.

I am a USAA member. USAA no longer insures RVs, but they referred me to Progressive who offered me great coverage at a great rate with roadside assistance which was a requirement for me.  I looked at AARP/Hartford, Good Sam, State Farm, Geico but no one could offer me the coverage that Progressive did.

If you are a member of FMCA, you can contact FMCA Insurance and there job is to shop the best rate for you.   They came up with Progressive on the motorhome I just sold.  Haven't started the search for my PC.

We just insured our PC, which we will be picking up on June 11. Our Insurance Agent looked at the options and the Progressive policy was the best for coverage and price. So, we went with Progressive for our new PC.
