First real trip
« on: April 23, 2017, 04:22:51 pm »
Got "Bob", our PC2100, home a week or so ago and am getting ready for our first real trip. Only be gone for a week, but still it'll be the experience we both have been waiting for. Question is, that after that Bob will sit for at least a couple of months before hitting the road again. We will drain both the black and grey tanks for the storage, but should we also drain the fresh water tank? If so how? Is that the same as flushing the system? On our 2100 I see no outside valve to drain such, nor no video on the PC site.
Sorry for for a basic question, but we know nothing about RV's.

thanks
Jack is what we call our PC 2351D, and he has taken us from campers to RV'ers and loving it. We're no longer Team Bob. Just Jack the RV!

Hey Gramps,

When my 2350 is gonna sit awhile between trips I drain all of the tanks including my water heater. Also, I do open the drain valves as well.  Just my way of caring for PC

Garmp, don't forget to put Sta-Bil in the gas tank and fill it.

If yours is built like my 2013, there is a lever on a drain spigot at the left end of fresh water tank under the sink. Just turn that. Then remove the drain plug from the hot water heater. Earl demonstrates that in his @Winterizing"  idea on YouTube.

Also, run generator once a month and if you have HWH auto leveling jacks, operate them a few times when running the generator.

Depending on where you store it, consider the vermin (muse, ants, etc.) factor. Remove all food or food-like stuff and possibly add a deterrent. I use an eco-friendly wood chip sachet soak in pine oil.

Hi garmp,

I like to drain the fresh water tank at home right after every trip.  My experience with tap water regardless of where it came from, develops a slimy film on the submerged portions of the tank.  Unfortunately it is impossible to completely drain the tank.  My drive way has a steep slope so I utilize it to angle the rig so the drain valve is at the lowest end to remove as much water as possible.

Oh, the answer to your fresh water tank-draining question.  Unless things have recently changed at the factory, you should have attached to the side of, at the bottom of the tank somewhere, a little plastic valve with a drain tube attached to the outlet which passes through the floor to drain on to the street.  The lever resembles a low cost water jug spigot like this.  It might be behind a panel.  I am not familiar with the 2100 except that the water tank is placed along the back wall, maybe under the sink.

Oh, I see RheaNL just beat me to it, and with better clarification on the location of the spigot.
