Cold weather Mercedes diesel
« on: December 10, 2016, 10:00:35 am »
We have owned a Cummins powered diesel pusher in the past; and it had an engine warmer that we switched on before starting the motorhome and never had any trouble starting up.  Our new to us 2012 PC 2400 Sprinter is our first small diesel powered vehicle; and were wondering if any Sprinter owners can tell us if it has a built in engine warmer.   :help  We have to store it outside our garage when not in use; but are able to keep it plugged in to a 20amp circuit; and it does get cold here just a few miles south of Chicago  (WH).  Obviously we will use locally purchased fuel that is blended for our cold temps.  Anyone?  Anyone?  :)(:

Congratulations on your purchase
We owned a 2012 2350 Sprinter and did not have any issues with cold weather starting, but probably never started in temperatures when it got down into the teens. There are a lot of commercial Sprinters in our area and I would guess they do not have block heaters.
As much as we enjoy our 2552 I do miss the performance and handling of the Sprinter, I think you made a good choice.

Thanks Bob.  We will be in the Orlando area and leave to return to Chicago on Dec. 26; so we will be taking our new to us Sprinter from comfy to cold  (WH)  It will be a learning curve for us.   2o2    :)(:

Congrats on the purchase  :)(:

I've no experience with the Sprinter but aftermarket block heaters are easily available if that becomes an issue.  I do have a diesel genset for the house that has a "pre-heater" included and it really needs it.  No way it will start without the pre-heat.  But as noted there are lots of Sprinter delivery trucks out there so I doubt it will be a problem.
