Campground Host

There's a summer campground host opening at San Simeon State Park in Cambria, CA.  Starts July 1, they would like you to stay 3 months but can be shorter, duties include morning and noon camp checks (ride thru campground in new electric cart and note occupied campsites on sheet for Rangers), answer questions about campground/surrounding area and sell firewood in the evening (sold by wheelbarrow load so would have to load wheelbarrows).  Cleaning camp sites and restrooms is contracted out, and they have paid staff to handle check in and entry station.  Rangers handle any problems, and one Ranger lives on site close to the host sites.  There are 2 hosts in the summer (we're one of them), full hookups are provided, and hosts can decide duty hours-we favor 3 days on and 4 days off, but that's flexible.  Cambria is on the central coast of California on Pacific Coast Highway between LA and Monterey, the campground is close to the ocean and summer temps are generally in the 70s.  If interested contact Ranger Jared at 805-776-2561 or Jared.Meichtry@parks.ca.gov.  Would be nice co-hosting with another Phoenix Cruise couple.

Wow!  Awesome opportunity.  I wish we could free up the time to do that!  We aren't that far but have other commitments about now. That area is amazing!  Thanks for the heads-up!

We would definitely be up for it if we weren't still stuck in Maryland. Mid-nineties this past weekend and humid. Gotta love it. We hope to be back out on the west coast by the end of next year and will be looking for camp host jobs. I hope you find awesome host buddies. That would be the icing on the cake for what sounds like a great hosting job.

It is very nice area.  Don't know your time frame, but this summer will be our last time hosting at this campground.   If you're interested and the time is right, contact Jared for next summer.

Boy, that does sound inviting.  But we can't be away from our grand daughter that long.  We can't deal with abandoning our house during the summer for that long either.  But thank you for the invitation!

Know what you mean about the grand daughter.  For the 3 summers we've hosted here, we've flown our grand daughter  out for a couple weeks.  She loves running on the beach, finding shells, watching the whales/dolphins/sea lions/seals/otters.
