New PC 2552 Pickup
« on: June 02, 2016, 01:27:39 pm »
We anticipate picking up our new 2552 in about a month.  Elkhart is almost 600 miles one way from home.  We will be spending a night or two in the PC in the Elkhart area.  While we don't expect any deficiencies I know from reading the forum some issues arose either at delivery or shortly afterwards.

Once home returning to the factory for repair is a time consuming and expensive proposition.  Obviously we want to do as thorough job as practical in finding potential problems while in Elkhart to reduce headaches for both us and the factory.  I am somewhat concerned finding a quality repair shop once we are home may be a problem.

I intend to look carefully at fit and finish as well as trying out the functionality of the various appliances.  This is our first motorhome so I am concerned about my ability in insuring everything is in order.  I would greatly appreciate hearing from owners that bought new from the factory as to items that required corrective actions either by the owner, factory, or others.  I am looking for items both large and small.  I realize every unit is unique but hopefully I can learn from other's experiences and make our stay near the factory productive.

Congrats on your purchase.   I live over 1000 miles from the factory and have had two new PC's.  My first PC a 2551 had a few (3 to be exact) issues that did need factory attention, had some blemishes in the exterior skin, I drove the coach out and negotiated having it delivered back to me.  My 3100S has had zero issues and has never been back to the factory in the four years that I have owned it.  Yes, there will be some little things wrong but I would honestly be optimistic that the items that are PC's responsibility will not give you any trouble.  All of the appliances both large and small can be serviced at any authorized dealer locally and really have nothing to do with PC.  If there is a major leak or what ever you are going to know after your first night in the coach.  Kermit is good  about authorizing any repair work to be done locally and he then cuts a check to you.  Compared to other manufacturer's PC does a very decent job putting their coaches together and more importantly standing behind what they build.  Best of luck!   Ron G.

We have bought and picked up two PCs at the factory. The first was a 2350 which had a cab vend window cover that was broke. My wife heard it rattling on the way to the campground. Next morning we went back to the factory and Bobby replaced it, and adjusted my outside mirrors for me. I was four hours late picking it up because they needed to get the jacks installed.

The second one was our 2552 and I spent about two hours checking it over. I found that Phoenix had stopped putting the radio line in jack in the dash. I asked about it and they took the dash cover off and installed one. We planned on going Shipshewana south campground for the night to check everything, BUT a bad storm was coming so we headed to Indionapolis. BIG mistake. I drove through the worst part of the storm. when we got to out site, I went to put down the jacks, only to discover there was no control panel. Checking outside I found that there wasn't any jacks either. I pulled the check off sheet. Jacks where listed but not checked because it was in the fold. Four people, myself include, missed the jacks. A call to the salesman that evening got his voice mail. A call at 7:00 am to the factory got me Carol, who was already working on the problem. She set up for me to return (300 miles) directly to the HWH intaller. Four guys jumped on it the minute I pulled in and an hour later I was on my way to Phoenix. Kermit wrote a check to cover my gas with a little extra for my troubles.

Shipshswana South is a good campground and you could spend a couple of days following the wife around shopping and eating at the Armish places.

It would help if you would fill in your state on your profile. Some one on here might know of a good place near you for service.

And welcome to a great way of life and a great motorhome.

Picked up my new 2100 at the factory in October, 2012. Since I live 1,200+ mile away, had inquired about repairs done locally. As others have said, you let the factory know the problems, find a good shop, pay the shop, send the bill to PC, and they reimburse for any warranty/construction problems that were repaired.

I went to Camping World in Denver. I had  very few, very minor problems all of which were fixed and have had no problems since.

We had our 2552 delivered to us.  Our first night out with the rig revealed three problems, all of which related to relatively unusual upgrades.
- Hard-wired SurgeGuard was miswired.  Walked through troubleshooting on the phone with Kermit and we located the problem....a missing jumper wire on the transfer switch.  I installed it, problem solved.
- Missing 50 amp power cord.  Kermit offered to reimburse me to buy one locally or he would fast track a delivery from the factory.
- A/C problem (Coleman 15000 BTU unit). Brought the rig into a local repair facility, Kermit authorized repair, they found a loose wire in the rooftop unit, Kermit paid them.

About 10 months or so later we had a generator mounting bolt fail.  Brought it to our local repair facility, Kermit authorized repair and paid them.

Finding a good local repair shop is probably a good idea.  We were lucky to have an independent guy who does excellent work close by, as well as a large RV dealer which has a huge shop and does decent work.  I don't generally like going to Camping World for work if I can help it.  If you have any places near you that store RV's, you can check with the owner of the place.  They usually know of good RV repair places locally.

Looks like we will be in the plant area at the same time. We have a 3 slide 2910 on the line. My report yesterday it was having the slide rooms fitted and installed. This is our 3rd RV. Did not count tent camping units. We are down sizing and look forward to this unit. We had several add on's so we have a check list . We look forward to picking up. It would be a 1200 mile delivery. And retired means we should have time. They are very helpful and they are the experts so we do not expect anything that cannot be handled in short order. We have several stops to make en route back to Florida. Can't wait. that's the difficult part.

A new day has dawned now only traveling with Miss Elle . Jim will be watching over us.

Fred,
After 3 PC's, the only thing that we needed was an alignment. We found that out on our way back to Florida with the 2551. The 2910 was perfect. Have fun and hope to see you this "winter"!
