Adding a reverse switch to the fantastic fan

We have a max air fan in our bedroom area and a fantastic fan in the galley area of our 2551.  What we really like about the max air is that you can reverse the direction of airflow.  We considered changing the fantastic fan to a max air ($300+) but did not like the idea of having to break the seal on the roof.  We also considered upgrading the fantastic fan ($160+) to one with a reverse switch.  After alot of research we found the part number for the reverse switch and a wiring diagram so we decided to make the modification ourselves.

We bought the reverse switch from amazon for $15.49 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LNH0BZI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1.  We wired it in, added the switch and it works fantastically.

After we ordered the switch we found we could have bought this for ($50) and just do a plug and play.

We could have bought a DPDT switch at the local hardware store for a couple of dollars but wanted the switch to look like it was part of the unit and not just an add on.  So all is well that ends well.  For less than $20 we have reverse air flow on our fantastic fan.  We are now looking at changing the speed of the motor with more options but that is for another day.

Please help me understand the advantage of reversing the airflow.

Berry,
       We had the same problem with out fan on our 5 wheel, I had order the reversing fan but got the single direction fan, when I asked about it, they told me that the RVIA took the option off of RV's in 2003. The reason was that the pull in could pull in fumes from the toilet and from the Generator if you run it. Now with that said, I reverced mine also.

Bruce,

     When we are watching TV we would like to get cool air blowing on us.  Now we can set the galley fan to blow air in and the bedroom fan to blow air out and it gives us a nice cross ventilation.  Then when we are sleeping we have it set the opposite way so that the bedroom area gets a nice draft running through.  The air conditioner is so loud that we do not like to use it at night when sleeping or watching TV so this gives us great air flow in both areas.

     The reverse air flow has always been an option on the fans but the basic units do not include them.

Jim,

    I would never put the reverse in the bathroom, don't think you'd want that air coming in the coach, but is it nice to have cool air coming in at night instead of leaving the air conditioner on.

I would love to add a rheostat to our fan.  Even on low, in a coach the size of a 2350, it is pretty loud.  It would be nice to be able to slow it down to just pull a small draft from an open window at night.  Anyone done that?

       I didn't have it in the bathroom, I was just saying that in the right conduction the fan could pull in the fumes from the roof vent to the black water tank.

Jim,

  I think you are right under the right circumstances that is a possibility.  I am wondering why the RVIA doesn't oppose it now like they did in 2003.  It might not be as common as they thought.  We have never had an issue with the reverse feature on our bedroom fan.

We plan on adding the rheostat as our next mod.  Looking at a Ohmite 25 watt, 50 ohms.  Need to do a little more research but I have seen on other forums where folks have done this.  I just want to get all my ducks in a row before I start.

Berry,
     Not here either, worked fined for 3 years, then trader it in for the 3100. Sould have done it sooner. Our Fantastic Fan came with a Thermostat on it.
