Charging coach batteries from van battery
« on: March 06, 2015, 11:10:39 am »
Trying to help a fellow PC owner out on a 2008 - does anyone know where the fuse is for charging the coach batteries from the van battery?  Checked everything out and the van battery is not charging the coach batteries.

Thanks
Barry

When the engine is running the alternator charges the coach batteries. There is a diode that makes it one-way, the van only charges the coach batteries.
To go the other way from coach to van, Phoenix put the little switch on left side of steering wheel.

Talk to Kermit, there is a solenoid and breaker under the hood.  In this case we found the breaker to have gone bad.  Didn't have the tools to fix it but the owner knows what needs to be done so all is good!

Either you asked the question backward or I don't understand.

The switch that operates that solenoid and next to the steering wheel. With the engine off when depressing the switch the solenoid will click closed and allow the coach batteries to charge the van battery.

As soon as you turn on your key to start the engine this solenoid will open and not allow this. When the engine is running the van alternator charges your coach batteries via a diode that allows the current to go in only one direction.

Keelhaulers, is this the little white switch just to the left of the steering wheel on the dash?  I bought mine used and the salesman didn't have a clue what it was for. I did what I should have doe earlier ......searched the forum and found the answer. I can see I have lots to learn.

Joseph,

Yes, the white switch is used to charge the truck (van) battery from the two house batteries.  You hold it in to give your van battery a charge, release it and then try to start your engine.  It took us about 5 minutes of holding it in to get enough charge into the battery for the engine to start.
