Gasoline smell in cabin

On our recent trip we detected a smell of (fuel i believe) in the Cabin when we picked it up for travel, it had been sitting for 4 days. I opened the engine hood and could not smell anything and you sure can't seen anything there.

We opened the windows and the smell was gone by the time we pulled into the campsite at about 10:00 am. Later that night, and we did not run the engine, we picked up the smell of gasoline again as the temperature outside began to drip (about 45%), my bride says the smell is by the driver's seat. We opened thkitchen window and each of our sleeping windows (2551) and turned on the fan and the smell dissipated.

Same thing on the next night, more than 4 hours after we turned off the generator, which we ran for about an hour. No smell i the morning afar we ran the furnace and generator for maybe 45 minutes.

This puzzles me, any ideas. This did not occur on our 4,500 mile trip from home base to summer base.

Any ideas of what could be causing it.

Generator runs on Gasoline, it is near drivers seat. Take the cover off and start it up, see if any gasoline is leaking.
The carbuator float can stick and dump fuel in but it also would make the generator hard to start.
Does it start normally?

The cowling covering the rear of the engine is also just by the driver's seat.  Realizing that I NEVER work on my vehicle engines any more, I would still bet on some fuel line connection that shrinks as it cools off and bleeds off just the slightest bit of gasoline.  It doesn't take much to create a smell.

Here is what I have determined as to the smell of gasoline. We live on the coast of Florida and have a summer home inMontana at 6000 feet. We were camped at 10,000 when we noticed the smell.

Our generatorv was running rich at the higher elevations and exhausting some smell of gas. We adjusted the altitude setting in the generator and the smell is gone.

Will keep all updated.

Fifty years ago everyone on this forum would have suggested the answer you reached.  Those were the days when cars had carbs that had to be adjusted for high altitude use.  Since fuel injection and electronic monitoring, we forget that the generators still use carbs.  Good detection.

Problem solved, the Cummings repaired a cracked fuel pump on the Generator. No idea how the fuel pump got cracked.
