General Discussion / Re: Replace just one tire?
« on: December 17, 2018, 02:20:52 pm »
Replace them all for sure!  They have all rolled the same number of times!   I would check the date stamp on the side wall, they could be much older than you think.  While the spare may be and option it to could be old and dry rotted from the inside out. At 68 MPH with people doing 80 around me I want the best rubber possible under me period.

Just be very careful......just because the hitch is rated for 5000 lbs does not mean you can tow that much if the GCW of the vehicle is exceeded.

Wayne:  I think you have hit the most important problem areas.  Like you I have always left my rig outdoors in somewhat of a protected area. I alway shovel the snow off the roof after every storm ( be very careful on the roof!  Do not put a shovel thru any of the skylights. I always use a plastic edged shovel so not to puncture the roof).  While removing the batteries is probably the best approach I find it a real pain and in case of any emergencies I always want my coach ready to go at the drop of a hat.  I utilize Battery Tenders for both the house and chassis batteries.  Just plug the units in and walk away with no worry of over charging the batteries.  I would put plywood under all the tires to reduce moisture reacting with the rubber.  See you in the spring!

General Discussion / Re: Phoenix Cruiser on a Dodge chassis?

You are all correct!   For a few years Dodge has rights to the Sprinter chassis when Mercedes was married to Chrysler.  I had a Dodge Sprinter with a Monaco Covina mounted on it.  Good rig but tippy and could not tow my Jeep.

Doneworking......Here is a wild one that happen tome with my 2012 2552.   I had a noise above the drivers seat that drove me crazy. I finally took the head liner down and found when PC cut the “cutaway” chassis roof they left one piece of metal (long sliver) that kept flopping around hitting other metal surfaces.  I cut the metal off and the rattle was gone.  Worth a try.  Thanks Ron G.

Not sure there is much that can be done once the flaking/cracking has begun.  With both of my PC’s (2011 and 2012) I used  a Mother’s product called LVR that made the material look great, feel great, and smelled like leather.  As long as I owned the 2012 I did not observe any break down at all. I used the stuff after every outing.  LoveShack ownes the coach now so perhaps he can give us the latest status?   Best of luck.

Jeep all the way.  I have a 2014 Cherokee Trailhawk and it pulls like a dream.  In any Cherokee models you  must have the upgrade four wheel drive system to tow four down.  Jeep odometers do not record towed miles like many other manufacturers.

CatsPlenty….I feel your pain but Ron D. is completely correct in that all of these new awnings are being made far more light weight as manufacturers attempt to lighten coaches as much as possible to meet consumers desires for higher MPG's.  Rollers and the mechanism that extends and retracts the awnings are not engineered to roll up twigs and debris.  Without cleaning the awning before retracting you will tear the material and of course if wet you will have mildew and ultimately rot of the awning fabric.  On my 3100 main awning I began to notice a little sag in the center (they are long awnings) and placed a support in the center and that solved the issue.  Good luck

Ron D. and others....I did a little research and found the sources I used for insulation kits for the E-450.....AcoustiShield.com and Carids truck supply.  A little pricey but worth every cent in my mind.  I have done the same approach in my new Freightliner M2 that did come with the "insulation package" but not enough for  my ears.   best of luck. Ron D. and others.....I ripped the carpet up completely ( took out the seats) and ordered new pre cut matching carpet from PC (I think it was $80.00).  There is no way you could salvage the old carpet that was stuck down.   I did not re-glue the new carpet because I saw no reason to do such.  The dog house kit went over the OEM insulation and utilizes super adhesive and I never saw any sagging etc.  The hood I actually cut myself out of Dynamat material and only covered the cut out areas of the hood.  I am sorry but it has been a few years and I have no record of the companies that I used but a Google search should ID such company's.  The floorboard area does have strategic pre determined  areas where the initial pads must be placed before the rest of the Dynamat material is  put down.  You must roll the material down very well, and cover every possible area.  The door panels come of very easily and one must take plenty of time to lay up the Dynamat material.  I am very pleased that LuvShack is enjoying my super 3100 coach, it is a super handling coach with the updates I did to it.  I utilized an app on my phone to determine the great reduction of decibels within the cab area.   best of luck

I purchased pre cut Dynamat kit specifically for the E-450. Again, Dynamat in the doors, floorboards, hood and additional dog house insulation made a big difference with wind and road noise.  The doors sound super solid when you close them.  It has been a few years now but I think I sent about $400 for the Dynamat product.  Until you hear the difference you do not know what you are missing.

Obviously, we all have different opinions as to what is and acceptable noise level in the cab area.  I will just say that carpet over bare metal as is the case with PC's and many other manufacturers is just not enough from the hot/cold/noise perspective.   Any additional insulation is worth every cent!

I found the noise level on the high side in both of my PC's.  I did extensive additional insulating of the cab area on my 3100.  Did the doors, floor, additional dog house, and the hood area.  I think I reduced the cab noise by upwards of 45%.  I would order any additional insulation you can get.  I never had any heat issues in the cab area (passenger) that some owners claim.

JD:  I am personally not a big supporter of extra warranties.  Just way to pricey for me.

The bases are different Ron D.  Ask me how I know?  They sent me a driver base by mistake, the holes are different and I found out the hard way!!!
