We sold our 2552 and are no longer doing the RV thing.
However, I must say after 30+ years, having high-line Diesel-Pushers and other units in addition to our most recent 3 PC models, I cannot speak more highly of any manufacturer than Kermit and his staff. They have made owning a PC the easiest and most enjoyable experience I/we have ever had. 
When asked about what RV manufacturer I was most satisfied with, which is fairly often, I'll always tell them to look at Phoenix Cruiser first.
As far as I'm concerned, PC is the bench-mark to which others aspire.

I had the same problem but solved it with small bits of tissue before pushing the wooden plugs back in.

I'd bet good money it's the switch. The contacts are not sealed against the elements and corrode. Remove the switch, pry the little tabs back from the rear of the switch and remove the sliding part (phenolic bit with copper contacts), sand the contacts clean and reassemble. Voila, the switch will work properly again (until you have to do it again). How do I know this? After almost 30 years of having various motorhomes with the same crappy switches, you learn a few things.

I finally got fed up with this and replaced the switch with a simple toggle switch (use the same leads but remove the bolt so it doesn't smash the new switch the 1st time you close the door).


That in & out stuff ain't all it's cracked up to be.

For what it's worth, before we towed a car, we'd simply disconnect the electric, water and cable and leave them at the campsite coiled on the ground. In all the time we did that there was never a problem and everything was exactly where and how we'd left it.
BTW, never, ever leave you unit without shutting off the water at the source. I've seen a number of people come back to their unit to be met with a very wet surprise.

I have the same unit as Ron and have used it 3 times. Twice on one of the rears and once on my TOAD. Admittedly, it takes a while but it will get to 75 PSI within 10 minutes. It does get a bit hot but has not let me down. Hint: If you go this way, DON'T use the cigarette lighter. It will blow the fuse and maybe melt the plug. I had to replace both the 1st time I used it on our 2010 2551.

The most important thing I can think of right now is a good quality 12-volt air compressor.
Others will make recommendations and all will be good.
But, if I could take only 1 thing, it would be the compressor.
Second to that, if you know anything about electrics, a VOM, terminals & terminal crimpers, wire, stripper, wire cutter and fuses.

Unfortunately, dealing with a private seller is often fraught with emotional baggage (all too often, a private seller attaches more value to their experiences than whatever is actually worth).
However, occasionally, a private seller is realistic and will sell a unit for what it's actually worth, minus a dealer's 'added value'. If you get really lucky, you can find a good buy.

If you decide to not go with the full body paint, I very strongly suggest you NOT have the decals applied to the top-front of the fiberglass cap. It will catch a lot of sun and eventually crack and/or peel (as it did on my 2 previous units). When we bought our 2552S new in 2011, I had the factory remove them but you can see an outline of where they were. If you have it built, specify no decal in that area.

We have a 2011 model 2552, which has no Pantry. FWIW, a model 2551 does not have the room to place a Euro chair behind the Passenger's seat (we had a 2010 2551 and traded it on the 2552).
