General Discussion / Re: Microphone for BT hands free phone calls
« on: May 06, 2021, 09:27:48 am »
We haven't had any issue with our microphone which I suspect maybe similar to yours.   When we use our paired phone those that we call can easily hear us and we can hear them.  I am not familiar with any mute function but wonder if you don't have a non functioning mike.

General Discussion / Re: Lithium Battery Upgrade
« on: April 12, 2021, 12:45:23 pm »
Update on installing my Lithium system:

I needed to replace my AGM batteries when it became noticeable they were not holding a charge.  After review of the literature and speaking with other RV owners I elected to go with the Battleborn Lithium batteries.

In addition to the Lithium batteries I replaced by Parallax 5300 converter with a Progressive Dynamic PD 9100 L specific for charging Lithium batteries.  In order to swap out the Parallax converter I did have to install an outlet.  The Parallax converter was hard wired the Progressive Dynamic is a plug in.

I also swapped out my Midnight Kidd solar controller for a Victron 100/50.  I anticipate in the near future of adding another solar panel, which is why I did not choose the 30 amps.

Several months ago I added the Victron BMS 712.  This has been very helpful providing information on my previously installed AGM.   Battleborn did walk me through the new settings when I added the Lithium batteries.

The question I was unsure of:

Does one need a dc-to-dc charger?    I was able to talk with Ed,the electrician at Phoenix Cruiser.  He felt that it was not necessary to add a dc to dc charger and that the present wiring to the solenoid along with the heavy duty alternator they install was sufficient to provide enough amps to the Lithium batteries to keep them fully charged.  Ed has met with the Battleborn representatives asking many questions to include the dc-dc charger.

So for now, despite having ordered the Victron Orion dc-dc charger, I will hold off installing it.   We have a trip planned for the midwest coming up in a couple of weeks.  I do have an appointment at the factor for some other work.  When I am there I plan to talk with Ed again providing him an update how well the present system charges the Lithium batteries from the alternator.

Any thought?  It still makes sense to me to install a dc to dc charger especially the Victron which provides a 3 stage charge to the house batteries.  But for now will hold off.

General Discussion / Re: Best Holding Tank treatment.

I use Happy Camper and find it works well.  I have had not problem ordering it on Amazon.  It's been a while since I have had to order some.  Perhaps between COVID and the ship being stuck in the Suez canal these has been some issue trying to find it.

You got a great price for the 6 Michelin tires.  I also just purchased these tires.  Discount Tire charged me $1537 but that included installation, balancing, and the hazard package.  I also had them install the Borg valve stems.   I did have to give them the printed instructions on how to install the Borg valve stems.  They were not familiar with Borg stems mostly installing the flexible braided extenders.

General Discussion / valve extenders
« on: March 11, 2021, 10:19:46 am »
It's been several years since there was a discussion on the forum about what type of valve extenders to use on the back inner tires/wheels.   I am in the process of new tires and would appreciate input if I should keep my flexible braided extenders or consider solid steel extenders for the inside back tire.

thanks

General Discussion / Re: Security Camera
« on: February 14, 2021, 09:09:55 pm »
What we considering is sometime of wifi security camera so we can continue to monitor the rig when we are out.  This might be either at an RV site or boon docking using a hotspot connection.

Any suggestions...

thanks

What type of inside camera security system to you use/or are considering for your rig?   If you have pets how does this work with your security system.   With several major trips planned for this year we would like to consider some type of system before we hit the road.

thanks

General Discussion / Re: Grill storage / grill reccs
« on: January 24, 2021, 02:40:00 pm »
We use a Napoleon TQ285 portable travel grill that easily stores,  in an upright position,  in the outside passenger back cabinet of our 2910D.   We also purchased a 5 pound refillable propane tank that fits along side the grill in the back outside cabinet.   We keep a few extra of the 1 pound Coleman propane cylinders just in case.   What I don't like about these 1 pound Coleman cylinders is that they are not "technically" refillable and once they are empty what do you do with them?  throw them away?  attempt to recycle them?  and where can they be recycled?

General Discussion / Re: new 3 way Anderson water valve
« on: October 05, 2020, 10:31:23 pm »
Hank,

Did it make any difference turning the valve counter clockwise and then clockwise back to CityWater/dry camping?    I did get a response back from Keith at PC whose recommendation was to just do what I did, ie. turn the valve counter clockwise and then back to position of the CityWater/dry camping.   I suspect at some point I will need add that check valve as suggested by Don

General Discussion / Victron 712 settings
« on: October 03, 2020, 10:45:23 am »
Does anyone know what the settings should be for my newly installed Victron 712 BMS?    I have  2 - 12 volt AGM Windynation BattaMax 12-100 batteries.  I did contact Windynation but they were of no help on the settings.

Battery Capacity - I know this setting should be 200 Ah

Charged Voltage _ ??? is this the float charge?  For my AGM batteries the bulk is 14.4, the absorption is 14.1-14.7 and the float is 13.5.

Tail Current - ??? do I just use the Victron default setting?

Charged detection time - do I just use the Victron default setting?

Peukert exponent - do I just use the Victron default setting?

Charge Efficiency Factor - do I just use the Victron default setting?

Current threshold - do I just use the Victron default setting?

Time to go averaging period - do I just use the Victron default setting?

All the settings above where I mention "do I just use the Victron Default"  I can not find anywhere on the manual for the Windynation batteries and when I contacted Windynations they said they were all settings Victron is to provide.

thanks

General Discussion / Battery Monitoring System
« on: September 15, 2020, 11:14:08 am »
After our recent trip of boondocking I realize the importance of having a battery monitoring system.   What system to you use and why did you choose your system over others.

General Discussion / Re: new 3 way Anderson water valve
« on: September 14, 2020, 10:05:14 am »
I don't know what to think?  Is the filling of the fresh water tank, when the valve is set to city water/dry camping on the Anderson 3 way, a valve problem or an issue with the pump?   Last night, while connecting to city water, I turned the valve counter clockwise to the sanitizing position.   I then (I had not turned on the water from the spigot yet) turned the valve towards the City water/dry camping hearing a "swish" sound.  I am not sure if the "swish sound" was water or air.   What ever happened seemed to clear the line and now while hooked up to city water I am not filling my fresh water tank in the city water/dry camping position.  Would adding a check valve still be advisable?

General Discussion / HWH Levelers
« on: September 13, 2020, 10:13:13 am »
Recently after engaging the HWH levelers I started having an issue of two of the levelers retracting on its own.  We first noticed this throughout the night when we heard a sound coming from the levelers and then noticed slowly the levelers were retracting on their own.  They don't go fully retract only partial but they are no longer securing the rig to the ground.  Has anyone else had this issue?  And why is it occurring?  And how do you fix the problem.    When one engages the levelers in a down position they should only retract when you push the bottom to retract them.

thanks

General Discussion / Re: 12v source
« on: August 07, 2020, 12:28:14 pm »
When installing my TST 507 repeater I connected directly to my house batteries and added a switch that can be accessed from one of the outside cabinets.   I placed my repeater underneath my rig about 1/2 way back.  There has been no issues with the signal and I can easily turn off the repeater from the switch.   I called the TST company who provided me recommendations on where and how best to install the repeater.
