General Discussion / Chassis battery

  I have a 2018 2552 PC.  I store it in a garage over the winter.  This winter I have had to jump the chassis battery every time I went to to start it and the generator.  I try to do this several times during winter as long as I can get the garage door open.  I recently took it to an RV repair shop to get the roof seams touched up and to get the water system sanitized.  The shop tells me that the battery is shot (I had them install a new one).  They are surprised given the age of the unit.  They think there is something drawing on the chassis battery, but cannot test it.  I have to take it to a Ford dealership to get this tested.  Has anyone else had similar problems with chassis battery?  How did you resolve it?

Love your tables.  Those would work really well for grandson’s activities and snacks while traveling.  I disliked the table that came with my 2552 that I put in the garage and bought a kamping king bamboo top folding table.  When it is opened it is bigger than original table, with adjustable height legs and it stores in the closet in the same straps as original.  Love yours, might have to consider talking with Phoenix, after I swap out my radio for one with Bluetooth...the biggest mistake I made in ordering my coach.

I purchased my PC2552 after my husband passed away because I did not think I could manage towing and setting up our trailer on my own.  I have had the PC for less than a year, but find I can manage it solo.  I have not tried to tow a car yet, maybe next year, but I did add a bike rake to my hitch, which gives me an option for getting around when I want to leave campground.  The checklist is a great idea, I use one for set-up and pack-up.  I have the HWH leveling system, which is a lifesaver.  I found a great truck service center that takes care of routine maintenance of the chassis.  I wash mine on own due to the lack of a local service, but would think about using one if available.  The one feature I wish I had traveling solo, is Bluetooth connecting my phone to the stereo.  I view this as a safety feature I forgot to add.  A new stereo, may be a Christmas present to myself in the future.  I can’t say that traveling without my best friend is not lonely, but no one yells at me while backing into a site. . I took my 2018 2552 (took deliver in April) in for an alignment on the advice of this forum and the shop owner tells me, "It was seriously out of alignment."  But he was extremely impressed that Phoenix puts the bushings in at production.  He said he has seen a lot of Class Cs in his shop and the new ones never have the bushings and he has to install them.

I am a USAA member. USAA no longer insures RVs, but they referred me to Progressive who offered me great coverage at a great rate with roadside assistance which was a requirement for me.  I looked at AARP/Hartford, Good Sam, State Farm, Geico but no one could offer me the coverage that Progressive did.

The full body paint is beautiful.  When I have shopped the last few years, I noticed that fiberglass gets dingy and the decals crack and peel after a few years.

I continued to have problems of mircrowave shutting down with surge protector on when hooked up to 30amp connection in campground this weekend.  I did a test using the inline surge protector we used on our old trailer.  Plugged it in at the post and connected it to the coach and turned on everting (lights, frig, fans, TV and microwave), all worked perfectly, nothing shutdown.  Took the inline protector off and tested PC installed protector again.  With one ceiling light, frig and microwave on, I turned on the surge protector, only to have microwave shutdown again.  Will be leaving another message with Dave on Monday.

Thank you I will check that.  I am using the 30/50 adapter because the only options my garage has for amp.  I have an external surge protector we used on our trailer.  I will test the system using that one to see if I get the same results.

Went back to my coach today to do more investigation.  Things I checked:
Breaker box..A OK.
Power was going to coach.
Fuses all good.

What fixed it?
When I shut off the surge protector everything came on!!!  We had the problem in Elkhart on delivery when the microwave would not work with surge protector on.  Bobby at the factory said he got it working fine.  Not sure whether he had the surge protector on or not.  Several weeks ago another person who took delivery had a problem with their surge protector and went through several before working properly.  My fix for right now is...keep the surge protector off, but I will be contacting Dave tomorrow to report the issue. 

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I visited my coach to stock it for weekend.  It has been plugged into 50 amp plug using a 50/30 adaptor.  Last time I left it, I turned off the inverter and left the surge protector on.  When I entered the coach the power step work, but I could not get the inverter, refrigerator or house lights to work.  I neglected to bring chassis keys, so I could not turn on engine to see if this had any impact on other systems.  I am sure the error lies with the operator, any advice is appreciated.  I will take keys tomorrow to see if I can get a different result.

I plan to go out to my storage garage this week to see if I can recreate the light situation.  Right now my coach is plugged in.  I will unplug it, make sure all lights are shut off, let the engine run a bit and turn it off to see what happens.  I had hoped to go camping this weekend to test all systems again, but unsure if the Iowa weather will cooperate.  We are having an extra-long winter.

When I got home with my new PC I noticed when I turn the truck engine off the thin LED coach lights come on.  Is this normal?  I have been going around and turning them off before leaving the cab.  Is this necessary, will they go out on there own?

When I was in Elkhart last week for deliver, it was cold at night. We just switched on the tank heaters and did fine.

My bathroom door header just got repaired by local shop.  Dave, at PC, did a great job working with local shop in instructing on repairs and getting payment authorized.  Back-up monitor also repaired, ended up being a connection and fuse issue.  I could not be more satisfied with how PC has responded to these issues.
