General Discussion / Re: TRX-S

Heres a video that the Fuse Transit owner made of the install.  I was wrong about being automatic.  Looks like it does not hang lower then anything else, but close.  There are almost 500 WBGO Fuses on the road.  All of them very low in the rear.  A good number of folks have raise the rear either by extra leaf spring, Sumo springs or Firestone air bags.  They have gained from 2" to 4" in height.  Others have just used skid wheels ala PC

I wonder how much they actually sell for. There's a new 2020 for $118k on RVtrader.  Can they have auto levelers on the Transit?

Dont think the pricing model has changed.  20% off MSRP.  Ive noticed that Campers Inn uses both MSRP and discounted pricing in their ads.

Bigfoot makes a bolt on set of 4 levelers for the Transit.  $2500 DIY. Fully automatic or manual.

General Discussion / Re: Compressor Fridge - Anyone have it?
« on: July 03, 2020, 02:41:32 pm »
My guess is that there is an issue with either the batteries, solar charging system or maybe a little on the fridge.  Ive been running compressor fridges on our boats for years on a pretty large 6V deep cycle battery bank.  With your current set up you should be able to go for several to many days during the summer months without plugging in or using gen set.

The average 25' RV uses 100-125 DC amps a 24 hour period with a compressor fridge. This includes all the other DC items that would be used in normal operation.  Some diehards can use much less, as they monitor things very closely.  I say this because in your situation you should have enough power options to keep up with the demand.

2- 6V  wired in series, AGM golf cart batteries fully charged produces 200+ amps.  So 50% recommended use equals  100 amps
400 watts of solar power can produce up to 225+ amps a day (8 amps per 100 watts) Avg. summer day should be 100 amps.

So 200 available amps less 125 used equals 75 amps reserve.

Assumption #1 is the batteries are either to small or have been overused and run down to many times.  In that case they will simply not except any serious charging either from the engine, converter (charger plug in) or solar panels.

Assumption #2 is a charging issue with the solar panels that can easily be checked out by a dealer.

Possible issue #3 The compressor fridge in the process of dying was drawing excessive power.  The unit says it draws 5 amps DC.  The duty cycle should be a draw of around 3.5 amps (on for 15 mins off for 15 mins etc)  If it was drawing 5 or more amps all the time could be more draw on the batteries.

Seems with the right new compressor fridge and a good set of batteries you should be okay.  The two most popular in use today seems to be either Norcold or Nova-Kool.  Although some are now even being powered by straight residential 110V fridges through an inverter....and working fine.

General Discussion / Re: Adding Batteries
« on: July 02, 2020, 12:23:26 pm »
I’ve got a 2011 2551 and am having to replace the refrigerator. The dead one is a Vitrifrigo AC/DC compressor unit. Two batteries just aren’t enough to support this rig with that type refrigerator. But I really am not that interested in moving to AC/LPG.

So I’m considering adding two batteries and using part of the small storage compartment next to the battery compartment. I know the existing fiberglass compartment bottom isn’t strong enough but I can weld/fabricate a rack that would be.

Curious if any other PC owner has any experience in this context.

Besides additional wet cell or AGM batteries, you could add solar or the newest rage Lithium batteries.  Lots of folks making the change to Lithium set ups.

Dont take up much room.  Picture of a 4 battery 400 amp (90% usable amps) under bed -settee set up.

Ron

From what I understand the diesel engine in the 2020 Transit cutaway or cab chassis is gone.  They discontinued the I-5 diesel and offer a little 4 cylin 2.0 which will only work well in the camper vans.  Wont work in the class C's.  So two options of V6 gas engines now.

Still a small RV.

Cal Cruiser-----and to think the HD350 Eco boast are flying off the shelves at Coachman Beyond, LTV Wonder,  and just recently at Pleasureway......no toad and park in any space.  I hope the TRX can fit in

I am  thinking could only be 2-3 TRX's sold based on what they have for sale..  Could be wrong, could be a few that were customers orders.

2 Lucky----------Cant speak for the TRX (although I really like it) have driven several Ford Transit HD 350's.  In particular two different WBGO Fuses. Quick, lean and mean.  Both the gas V6 Eco boast and the I-5 diesel have a lot of get up and go.  The handling is very sport car like with min leaning in the turns and pretty forgiving, bit stiff, but not bad on the bumps. Unfortunatly the I-5 diesel is going away on the 2020 chassis.  Two gas models including the Eco boast will be available. The Diesel gets around 15-17MPH and the V6 11-13 MPG.  BTW, It drove much better then the Sprinters.  Theres a pretty good review of the new 2020 Ford Transit on the LTV website.  Detail features of the Transit at the 20:00-25:00 min marks.

When we are free to RV again most of us won’t even miss flying. I’m also thankful to have a compact E350 motorhome instead of a Sprinter or Transit without enough ground clearance to go where the pavement ends. A Quigly or Tiger 4x4 would be the  ultimate social distancing machine.

Not sure what PC is doing on the TRX, but a little known fact  is the WBGO and several other large RV makers order the "economy suspension" package on their Transit and Sprinter chassis.  Just enough to carry the U.V.W. at the factory.  Just saving $$  :help

PC needs an "Earl"!

One time I emailed Earl with a question.  He said call me Sunday morning.  When I called him he was in his garage tinkering with stuff, and did not mind at all.

Old school business thinking, its really gone today.
