Well, our bottom hinge broke last week during our 3-week cross country adventure. Duct tape and an ice chest worked for the rest of the journey. Now to figure out a permanent solution!

Outstanding work Ron! Our 2007 2551 is on its second Sanicon. I've converted over to gravity, but I'll give this a try this Summer.

Thanks for the replies. Our 2007 doesn't have the bypass so looks like we need to pull the unit out. Hopefully it won't be a full Robin Williams "RV" scene!

I seem to remember you can dump the old-fashioned way by bypassing the Sanicon but I sure don't see how without removing the Sanicon unit. Which we really don't want to do tomorrow unless required. Any tips? Thanks.

Help! We are 400 miles from home on the first day a 3-week trip and the Sanicon is dead. Where is the fuse to it? There is no power to the motor but the electric tank valves work as well as the light. Any help is greatly appreciated.

We too have the power step gremlin. I replaced my door switch today and found that it was a straightforward job on or 2006 2551. Here are a few photos if you are considering the job.

Here's what the switch looks like from under the Phoenix. At this point, I was concerned that the switch might be rusted to the frame. I lucked out when the switch pulled out with a reasonable tug.


Loosen the 2 screws that you can see from inside the doorframe and the switch will pull out straight toward you. Yay Phoenix! You do this job sitting in the doorframe rather than lying under the unit. Boy, with
that much rust it was a wonder that it was working at all!

Switch the wires from the old switch to the new, slide the switch back into the doorframe, screw the bracket back to the frame and you are done.

I did kill the house power while doing the repair. I was expecting the power step to come sliding out and bop me in the face at any time, but I survived. Next winter's project; working on that rust. Thanks to everyone on this thread for the info and help and thanks to Phoenix for a straightforward design of the switch.

Adventure Anywhere / Seeking advice on visiting Mt. Rushmore/Black Hills without a toad

Hi everyone! We are planning a 3-week trip out west, leaving in early September. Our plans are to visit friends on the way, then head to Mt. Rushmore/Badlands, Cody WY, Yellowstone, possibly Rocky Mtn. National Park before seeing family in OK and heading back home (lots of time on I-40 there).  We are not taking a toad.

For Yellowstone, we are staying in West Yellowstone 3-4 days so we can leave the PC at base camp and either rent a car or do tours. But I haven't been able to find something comparable around Keystone or Hill City for the Black Hills area--we'd like to see the Needles Highway and other scenic drives where the PC wouldn't be suitable. It looks like Mt. Rushmore itself in the PC doesn't seem to be a problem. Any thoughts or suggestions?

General Discussion / Suspension and handling upgrades to Our 2551

A year ago, we brought home our gently used (48,000 miles) 08' 2551. Since then we've enjoyed making short trips and getting ready for a 3 week cross country trip planned for this fall. We have put a lot of effort into getting our PC to drive better. Thanks to all the resources on this forum, we've made a significant improvement since that first drive home. Over the winter, we installed new Bilstein shocks, anti sway bars, and a Safe T Plus steering stabilizer. We also discovered that the source of an annoying vibration was a bent wheel. After getting our front Michelin tires replaced thanks to the recall, we finally, we removed the wheel covers and painted the wheels to make the job of daily air pressure checks easier. If you've bought a used RV with a good number of miles, or if you have put a lot of miles on yourself, these upgrades can make a real difference in driving effort and control. I think that it would be great if RV manufacturers offered these upgrades as a "handling package" at the time of purchase. Again, we appreciate all the information and advice that we received last year. If your rig is wallowing down the road, these improvements can really help.

General Discussion / Recommendations for replacing the 2007 DVD player?

Hi everyone! Have done a search but didn't find what I was looking for. We need to replace the original DVD player since it's freezing and skipping but want to use the installed surround sound speakers. Any recommendations? Thanks for your help -- I always learn something useful on this forum!

Hi -- no solution for you but we are interested in hearing remedies as well. We are having paint peeling on the "front roof" portion of our 2551, near the sat dish and TV antenna. Any ideas how to fix it?

Hi everyone! We are Jerry and Judy, proud owners of a new-to-us 2007 PC 2551 and we are enjoying it! It has taken a while for us to get everything sorted out--and our work schedules have not been cooperating--but we have managed 2 trips since picking "her" up in late June. We are aiming for another 5-day trip in October with maybe a long weekend before then before we settle down for the winter. Our hope is to take 3-4 weeks next spring and head out west!

Our previous RV was a travel trailer so this is a big step for us. Reading the forum has been very helpful in learning the ins and outs of the PC.

We have made some mods (like everyone) such as upgrading the original 19" TV to bigger one; next up is replacing the DVD player and house batteries. One unexpected change was getting a new right front wheel; we discovered the old one was bent when we took it to a local truck tire place to get the wheels balanced. The new wheel and balancing does help some; probably will need to do the sway bar/shock upgrades we've read about to address the "wandering" issues when driving.

Two questions for you experienced owners:
1. The PC has 2 places on the roof where paint is peeling; it's near the sat dish and the antenna. Doesn't appear to affect the fiberglass (we have full body paint). Any recommendations on where to take it for repairs? We're considering the dealer where we bought it, but also are looking into local independent RV repair guys and maybe even people experienced in fiberglass repair (boat and Corvette repair folks).

2. There is a leak that seems to be coming from the entry door. It's been raining A LOT around here (60" so far this year--a record!). It doesn't appear to be an old leak. There is moisture on the carpet just to the left of the entry door (inside looking out) and behind the little fold-up table, and also leading down to the passenger footwell. Has anyone else experienced this? Suggestions?

We are loving the PC and looking forward to years of adventures with it. Thanks for all your adivise!

Hi everyone! Here's the update and our apologies for being out of touch for so long--work keeps getting in the way! We are now the proud owners of the 2551 and will be taking delivery Saturday if schedules permit. Yay! Everything worked out to our satisfaction ;-)and we are looking forward to spending tomorrow night in the driveway in it (along with Fidget the wonder beagle). Then an actual road trip in a few weeks!

Your advice and info continues to be incredibly helpful with this process of getting to know our new PC. Thanks so much and look forward to learning a lot more every day!
