General Discussion / Skylight shade
« on: January 30, 2023, 12:39:32 pm »
DW saw an ad for duo form thermo shield rv skylight shade. A bit on the pricey side, but if they work as advertised, might just be worth it. Anyone have any experience with them? Pros, cons and general knowledge is appreciated.

thanks

General Discussion / Water pressure regulator
« on: October 19, 2022, 09:12:41 am »
How many of you use a water pressure regulator when connected to city water? Are they really of value? I mean are they worthwhile? Necessary? Or are they basically a safety recaution?
If so what do you use and why?
Thanks

General Discussion / Liquid Spring maintenance
« on: October 10, 2022, 12:02:50 pm »
Do you have Liquid Springs on your Cruiser? If so, what's your maintenance schedule like? We have over 2 years on our coach & slightly over 15,000 miles. The manual says every 6 months or 25,000 miles. So where do we fall? Another section says to tighten bolts to 600lbs torque. (yeah right, I carry a torque wrench with me).
Thinking about making an appointment for a go over the system, just to be save, as we are heading to the mother ship and Lafayette would be on our way.
Any opinions, thoughts, concerns?

thanks

General Discussion / RV Water Hose
« on: October 07, 2022, 08:44:15 am »
Time to replace our old Camco white water supply hose. I have been looking at one of these Silver Bullet type of expandable hoses. Which one I don't know. I know it has to be drinking water safe. Anything else I should be concerned about.
Any one use another type of hose? Which one & why?

thanks

General Discussion / AGM batteries & solar battery tender
« on: September 11, 2022, 11:30:03 am »
Thinking about switching over to AGM batteries & know nothing about what I should know & do. I tried to do online research but have a hard time distinguishing between a sales pitch & an honest review/opinion as I know nothing about the subject.
I did find that one important point is to keep the batteries charged while in storage. As I generally put it in storage from Nov to April. Cannot keep on our property due to our beloved HOA, so it is offsite with no electric available. Which brings me to a solar battery tender. These are effective??? Spending this kind of money on batteries, don't want them going south the first year. Since our coach is offsite can I use a solar tender discretely with no holes drilled, etc. I'd like to place the solar panel in the cab windshield & run the cables to the batteries. Does this even sound feasible?
And I guess solar battery tenders, like the batteries themselves, vary in price from one end of the spectrum to the other. And the higher the price isn't always the better.
Oh, where to start? Then there is always the consideration of total cost and what I can afford. But naturally I want the best for the least cost.
Any thoughts?

General Discussion / 2022 Reunion
« on: September 09, 2022, 11:53:20 am »
Tried to post on RVillage, but found the site to be completely useless. Anyway if anyone is interested in a meet up we are leaving St. Louis the 16th with a night over at Alley Spring Recreation Area (COE park) site #601, then on to Wanderlust for the reunion. We plan to arrive a day early to help set up or what ever.

General Discussion / Mothership & maintenance
« on: June 17, 2022, 03:50:53 pm »
For maintenance on your rig, including liquid springs, HWI Levelers, generator, everything else, have you had the mothership do this or where do you go for what? We'd like to schedule an appointment, have it all done, plus a few other things that need Doug's touch.I understand they are booked till Dec, but I can wait to have it all done right, so its ready for next season.
Your thoughts?

General Discussion / Stinky slinky

With Phoenix having the macerator system, and it has worked flawlessly, does anyone carry a stinky slinky just because?
Thanks, just wondering.

General Discussion / Foggy backup camera
« on: May 24, 2022, 10:46:57 am »
On our last trip we noticed our 2351D backup camera is foggy. Like condensation has gotten inside between the lens & outer housing. After a while on the road it clears up a bit, but still not it's normal self. Any hints for a non-mechanical sort looking for an easy fix that won't break the bank.
Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Fit to be tied - cat gone AGAIN!
« on: April 30, 2022, 10:42:57 am »
Well this makes the third time at the same storage facility. Double gated with entry codes. Had a Cat Clamp on this time. Didn't seem to matter. GONE!
Police seem to think it is an inside job by one of the other tenants. Found this out yesterday evening as we went to retrieve it to start packing to leave Monday morn. Filed insurance claim this morn and then cancelled our reservations for Crooked River SP, and others along the way. Guess we'll spend our 51st anniversary sitting on our patio dreaming & wishing. Repair shop doesn't open till Monday and I hope they can get the parts quick enough so we can at least salvage part of the trip. Otherwise it's cancelling more reservations.
I bought the top of the line Cat Clamp supposedly with life time warranty. We''ll see come Monday when I call.
Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue with CatClamp and just what their solution was.
Thanks for letting me rant. Just a bit p***ed off right now.
Camp on, & be safe.

General Discussion / HWH Levelers
« on: March 18, 2022, 10:25:16 am »
Went to out storage lot to check on the RV, start the generator & check things in general. Upon starting the coach the leveler control panel had two yellow lights on, indicating the rear and the right side. Levelers functioned normally, but when retracting them for travel these lights remained on although all were in the travel position. Is this cause for alarm/concern? Should I take it to a service center or not. We are planning to leave in a little over a month and don't want to cancel again.

thanks

General Discussion / Gone again
« on: January 19, 2022, 11:03:36 am »
Please bear with me I just gotta vent. Just prior to the Spearfish Reunion as we went to get Jack (our RV) from storage to begin trip prep, found our catalytic converter was stolen. Grrrrrr! Our local ford dealer rushed to get it replaced, then DW & I both came down with respiratory issues and had to cancel the trip.
As we tried to return to normal we ordered a CatClamp to prevent any more thefts. This morning when we went to take Jack to the dealer to have the clamp put on, we found that the converter was gone AGAIN!!!!!!
Well at least this time we have the CatClamp to be put on right away.
Thanks for listening. Just had to vent.
Safe travels all.

Adventure Anywhere / South Dakota
« on: January 01, 2022, 12:40:30 pm »
Since we had to cancel the Spearfish reunion due, to respiratory issues, the wife decided we'd take a trip to a bit of South Dakota in June. Only plan to go as far as Palisades State Park just above Sioux Falls and then return home. The only required stops, from St. Louis, MO, are 1.) Elks lodge in Blue Springs, MO (KC) and 2.) then Minowi Tavern, Minowi NE (google it). Plan to take a week each to and from. Looking mainly for COE, State & Municipal parks. Private parks if we must. Live by the rule of 2. Drive no more the 200 mile at a time, drive 2 days then stop after the third for 2 days, and arrive by 2 o'clock each day, cause that's cocktail time.
We generally like to make the trip a circular one. Like going though, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa then Missouri. Or something of the such. Never retracing the route. Open for things to see & stay, history, scenery, nature most anything except cities. Not big on boondocking.
thanks

General Discussion / Another house battery question
« on: December 25, 2021, 01:44:01 pm »
Once set up at camp, connected to shore power, etc, do you turn your house battery off until getting ready to leave? Is there any benefit either way, on or off?
Thanks, and sorry for a basic question.

General Discussion / Truma users/waterheater
« on: November 01, 2021, 04:55:13 pm »
Our newer 2351D has the new Truma heater/water heater, and to this point we love it. Now at our final fall trip a strange thing happened. I have the Trumas set to heat/furnance with the water heater off. But we are getting hot water. What's up. Any thoughts?
