General Discussion / Samsung dvd replacement
« on: November 14, 2024, 11:22:46 pm »
The Samsung dvd player w/ surround in my 2011 unit is going bad. It seems the Samsung is no longer made. Can anyone tell me what brand and model number is that’s currently used? I’m hoping it’ll be plug and play. If not I guess it’s a search for used on eBay.

General Discussion / Cabin air filter
« on: April 12, 2024, 06:48:05 pm »
Something I started to look into 2 years back but health issues changed my focus.  I can’t find any listing for a cabin air filter for my 2011 E450.  Heck I can’t even find where if it exists it may be located.  Is it possible there isn’t one?  I’m finally doing well enough health wise that we’re planning a 7,000 mile trip and I’m attempting to address as much as possible in preventative maintenance but I’m scratching my head on this one.

General Discussion / Onan gen fuel pump
« on: June 03, 2023, 11:19:05 pm »
My fuel pump is on the way out.  Has anyone changed one out and if so did you relocate it to an easier location for future access?  I’m going after market after seeing the reviews on oem weren’t much better than aftermarket.

General Discussion / Tires
« on: November 18, 2021, 08:24:15 pm »
If any of you are expecting to be needing tires for next summer nows the time. The Black Friday sales are substantial. 2 months ago the best I could do on the four tires I wanted installed was 881.00.   I got them today for $680.

However I live in California so we have fees on top of fees.  Even a fee fee; a standard fee! So you’ll do excellent in almost any other state.

General Discussion / Spark plug service
« on: October 01, 2021, 02:48:05 pm »
I’m at about 74,000 miles. They claim plug service is due at 60,000 from what I can find on the net. A plug and coil pack service runs $500 give or take a few bucks in my area. Has anyone here had this service completed and if so at what mileage? How did the plugs look?

I would have thought they’d be good for 100,000 miles but a mechanic I am not.

General Discussion / Changing out shocks
« on: September 10, 2021, 02:22:12 pm »
A bit of info that will help anyone swapping out shocks. I just changed out the front shocks on my rig. It’s always been known the drivers side is tough to change and most learn new words in the process. There’s a boot inside to remove that helps gain access but it’s still a bit of a challenge.

Now attempting a diff approach I went to harbor freight to buy a few offset box wrenches to try. While there I found a 8 in 1 dog bone wrench with open socket type ends. All of $10 and with it I was able to change out the drivers side front shock taking only 5 mins longer than the passenger side and no frustration.   I wish I could post a picture of the wrench.  Anyone wanting a pic to assist in finding one of these wrenches send me a note and I will email you a pic.

General Discussion / Generator Starter
« on: September 07, 2021, 05:38:34 pm »
This is just an fyi. Replacement of the generator starter requires the generator be lowered from the RV and slid out to remove the cover and then remove the starter. You do not need to remove all the connections, just the fuel line, Positive cable and ground as well as one multi line connector next to the solenoid. Easy peasy. The main line back to the Rv is long enough to drop the Gen Set. slide it out from under the rv and remove the cover. You also need to remove the exhaust which is all of a couple of u clamps.

Now if you have a motorcycle lift or a friend with one and you have levelers this is a 90 min job taking your time. If you don't have levelers this is going to be a real chore. The lift is 5" at its Lowest point. The gen set is about 14 1/2" tall.  Once you have remove the 8 bolts and lower it you will need to use the levelers to raise the drivers side to 20" from the Bottom of the side to the ground to be able to clear the gen set and remove the cover.  Once you slide it out its 4 bolts to remove the cover and 2 bolts and one nut to change out the starter.

All in All.. Easy Peasy

General Discussion / Water leak and then some
« on: August 04, 2021, 06:56:14 am »
2011….2552…..Presently in Bangor Maine. We’ve developed a water leak that has the floor soaked aft of the water tank. The tank isn’t leaking (full) I can’t feel any wetness under  any of the hose or connections. Water pressure at the park is dismal low. I haven’t narrowed it down quite yet but it appears to only be leaking when we’re connected to city water. I pulled the connection at the hose connection outside and it’s tight as well. No leak at the or from the pump as well.

Does anyone know off hand the route of the water line from the city connection? Any ideas on what I may be missing in my search?

General Discussion / Rear Differential
« on: December 04, 2020, 08:26:48 pm »
I have a 2011 E450 and it's time to change the rear differential Fluid. Does anyone know where I can locate the information as to which Differential it has? Theres a couple possibilities and I don't see it on the differential. Is there a label somewhere or a secret decoder ring that might divulge the info?

General Discussion / Dinette cushion density
« on: November 18, 2020, 05:16:01 pm »
Our upholstery is flaking away. We just replaced our front seats with Flexsteel in cloth and I am ordering a new Euro recliner in cloth as well and ordering matching fabric for the dinette. Has anyone redone their dinette and if so did you change to a foam with higher density? I have no way of knowing the density of the current cushions so I'm in sort of a cross roads. Been considering a 2.4 -2.9 density for the seats and probably a bit thinner than the current thickness used and apply a 3/4' Dacron wrap. Not sure if I’ll need to replace the back cushions at this point but I know a 2.4 density is too stiff for the back.

Any suggestions? Anyone done this and if so any lessons learned to share?

General Discussion / Electrical charging issue
« on: July 13, 2020, 07:12:06 pm »
Ok we’re on the road and here is  the issue. The house batteries charge when hooked to shore power or when we run the generator. They do not charge from my chassis alternator. I thought maybe the 40 amp Auto reset breaker under the hood might be the culprit but no dice. Anyone have any ideas on what I might check next?

General Discussion / Tough times
« on: March 22, 2020, 06:29:58 pm »
With this massive downturn in the market there is going to be a huge hit on the rv industry. Between lost jobs and terrible losses in peoples 401k retirement income this is going to be a rough one. Obviously not just for the rv industry. I know many who count on their 401k feeding their retirement with monthly income who have bought Motorhomes , boats etc on a payment plan.  There isn’t really that many RV companies left after all the consolidation from the last hit. I guess if a person wanted to upgrade there will be opportunities coming, especially on the used market. For anyone wanting to sell; well it’s going to be a buyers market for the time being.

Most importantly I hope and pray all come out of this healthy. Financially pretty much everyone will be taking a hit. Both consumers and sellers of goods and services alike.

If you believe.. Pray... if you don’t, why not give it a shot, you’ve nothing to lose.

General Discussion / Brake away and safety chains
« on: March 03, 2020, 12:19:48 pm »
I've recently seen a few large M/H's pulling heavy toads with no safety chains. All had the brake away system installed. I spoke to one of the owners and he told me if you have the brake away installed you do not need the safety chains/cables and vice versa. This is something I've never heard before nor have I been able to find any information stating either way. If it had only been one I'd seen I would have written it off but I've seen several set up this way.

Does anyone here know what's what and any official site on requirement variations?

General Discussion / Back up camera options
« on: December 01, 2019, 05:23:41 pm »
On my 2011....2552 the back up monitor is in the rear view mirror. It was never been stellar and it’s gone from that to almost worthless. I can’t find the brand or where the wires feed thru. I was hoping to find the connectors with out ripping the place apart and simply replacing the monitor with something that works.

Has anyone changed out a monitor or is it easier to simply install a complete wireless system or maybe  just use a WiFi camera and use my phone as the monitor?

General Discussion / Anyone here from Alabama?
« on: August 26, 2019, 11:21:44 am »
We’re looking at a few states to possibly relocate. So far I know people in the other locations to answer my questions but not Alabama.  Is there anyone here who can give me insight on costs associated with Motorhome license fees, auto and home insurance etc? In Alabama were specifically looking in the Fair Hope area.
