General Discussion / Extended Drivers Side Bed to 80 Inches
« on: Today at 03:46:38 pm »
Looking for input on a 2552 with longer 80 inch drivers side bed.  Anybody have one? How do you like it? Would you do it again? Does it cause any limitations?

These were built in couple of ways.
1) For 2552 put in the slide from a 2551 gives extra room to install an 80" driver's side bed.
2) Order 2552 dinette w/o the slide out. This allows the dinette to slide forward to just behind the fully extended drivers seat, additionally w/o the slide out edge trim you pick up more length totally just over 12". Therefore the drivers side bed grows from 68" to 80".

The power bed slide on the drivers side would be a nice option too.

Thank you!

General Discussion / PC Value Just Went Up - Lazy Daze Closes Shop
« on: June 28, 2022, 09:42:51 am »
Lazy Daze RV is permanently closed per reports on the LD Forum.  LD was a family business that made quality RVs.  So now PC and Coach House are two remaining “small” RV manufactures remaining.  Result is your PC value has now increased for those looking for a quality RV!

General Discussion / Sold our PC
« on: March 25, 2021, 10:42:22 am »
With sadness I write that Linda and I sold our PC.  We loved our PC 2551 but with the kids producing grandkids like rabbits we will be looking to go back to a travel trailer with bunk beds so they can camp with us.

Love this forum.  Thanks for all the helpful information provided to us.  PC owners and the factory support are the best!!

Till we meet again!

Tips and Tricks / PC Cover
« on: October 23, 2020, 02:04:35 pm »
Put the PC to bed for the winter.  Cover is a Gold line.  I add a yoga ball on the roof at the rear to avoid water puddle due to the rear rail,  Also add strap in front to reduce flapping.  Cross the straps in back. Easy on and off.  Works good.  Second year with the cover.

General Discussion / Motor Oil Additive
« on: October 20, 2020, 02:12:22 pm »
Original owner of my PC 2551 had oil changes done at Ford dealership.  Reviewing the work i noticed they added something every oil change.  I called them and they said they added an oil additive because of the nature of RVs sitting idle over long periods of time.  I purchased the additive attached (BG-115 MOA) for $20.  My engine does not burn oil at 53,000 miles and runs great.  The BG-115 is upgrade from original BG-110.  Kind of pricy but it gives me piece of mine.  Combined with MOBIL One oil it doesn’t get any better.

I requested info from Lifeline on AGM batteries.  I asked about Lifeline 6 volt GPL-6ct or GPL-4ct. Here are my questions.

1) Is my Xantrex 60 amp converter adequate to charge the 6ct or 4ct batteries?
Here is charging cycle per manual.

DC Output
Nominal output voltage
13.5 Vdc (float charge)
14.2 Vdc (bulk/absorption charge)

2] The 6ct has to be installed on its side to fit. Is that a problem? Picture below shows potential install.

Lifeline Response:
1) The battery can be mounted on it’s side but must be securely fastened so it can not move up or down or slide from side to side. This can put pressure on the side of the battery and cause it to possible break on the cover to container seal.

2) That converter will work just fine. It is best if the float voltage was lower, around 13.2-13.3 volts but 13.5 isn’t terrible, just slightly on the high side.

General Discussion / Reusing Cherokee Red Hooks after Base Plate Install
« on: February 16, 2020, 07:50:34 pm »
Ran across this and thought those of you with Jeep TrailHawks with Red Hooks May want to consider reinstalling them after base plate installation.

How to Keep Your Jeep’s Red Rescue Hooks

We got an extra set of tow bar brackets, had the ends cut off, then replaced the normal brackets with the red hooks by welding the hooks to the extra brackets.  This allows us to install the brackets with the hooks back onto the Jeep anytime we like. The hooks are also extremely functional because they are mounted in the tow bar brackets which are rated for high strength.  It’s definitely not something everyone will want to do. But we think it is a really cool extra step and seems to have attracted a lot of interest. So if you’re willing to buy an extra set of brackets and find a welder to do the job, it’s a great way to retain the look of your stock Jeep.

General Discussion / 2020 Jeep Cherokee Latitude Plus vs Trailhawk
« on: February 04, 2020, 11:55:35 pm »
Still looking for a toad. Built a new 2020 CHEROKEE LATITUDE PLUS 4X4 with neutral tow.  Savings was $5300 less than  Trailhawk Elite ($37300 vs $32000).  Plus there is a $4500 rebate.  We don’t go off road.  I would miss the better seats, memory seats and dual controls but could live without it.

Anyone have any experience with a CHEROKEE LATITUDE PLUS 4X4?  It would probably line up to hitch better as Trailhawk requires an offset hitch.

Any comments welcome.

General Discussion / Levelers: What not to do!
« on: December 31, 2019, 10:32:52 pm »
Class A with levelers lifting rear wheels off the ground. There is no keeping the MH from falling off the levelers. The block on the front tire is not even against the tire! Don’t ever lift rear tires off ground.

General Discussion / TRX pic added to PC web page
« on: November 07, 2019, 08:22:56 pm »
Just noticed a TRX picture adores the PC web page.  Looks like the sprinter picture was removed. Swipe the pic to see all three.

Maybe they will be communication more on new layouts for the TRX as the existing one doesn’t cut it for us.  It sure is a beauty though!

General Discussion / Battery Charger Question
« on: September 03, 2019, 08:14:29 pm »
I am considering replacing my flooded lead acid batteries with AGM.  I have a 2010 PC 2551.  It has XM 1800 inverter and Xantrex XA DC P50 panel.  Where would I find the converter/charger so I can see if it is capable to charge AGM batteries?  Is it under the passenger bed. Do I have to take out the plywood bed cover to see it?

Thanks

General Discussion / Acme tow dolly reference for brakes and bearings
« on: August 08, 2019, 09:08:39 am »
Ran across this link and thought I would share for all that have an acme tow dolly.  It gives info on brakes and bearings.  Of particular interest is how to check used ones for proper piston pressure.  So if you look at a used on you can tell if the system is in good condition.

“This dolly comes with the Vault wheel bearings/axle assemblies by UFP. The Vault grease system uses a small spring loaded piston to keep a little bit of pressure inside the axle (prevents water from getting in the bearings).  The status of the pressure system is easy to determine,  simply look at the hub. The black piston should be protruding 1/8 inch or so from the center of the hub.  If its flush with the hub,  then there’s no pressure.”

General Discussion / Considering Four Down Need Input
« on: July 02, 2019, 12:24:44 pm »
We are considering two vehicles for four down. 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk or 2014 Honda CRV. Both appear to be good to tow behind the PC.

The Honda is used and has a Roadmaster InvisiBrake installed. Anyone use this braking system? Good? Bad? Seems to make setup easier.

The Jeep would be a new install.  They seem to have solved the wobble problem with a wire harness.

We have a Blue Ox tow bar and Patriot brake system which could be used.

Any comments on either vehicle or the systems to use appreciated. This decision is driving me crazy!
