General Discussion / Re: Anyone ever remove decals from your rv?
« on: April 13, 2025, 08:47:34 pm »
In 2016 I was quoted $3k just to remove and replace the decals with custom  vinyl graphics, not even reproduction decals. Instead I got custom  2 color multi-stripe paint work done for $5k. The white between the stripes had to be painted too, so that’s 3 colors. After 9 years of outdoor storage the paint still looks as new except for spider cracks on the side door.

Paint and body work here in CA is crazy $$$ due to the high costs for labor, rent, insurance, Cal EPA regulations, etc. etc. It’s hard just to find a shop with a big enough paint booth. You may  want to search in Arizona or Nevada too

We have a 2006 Phoenix Cruiser 2551. We bought it in 2019 and had the decals replaced. It looked brand new, but the snow and freezing temps have cracked and faded the decals. I just want to remove them. Has anyone ever attempted this?

Serrano - There are several  RV vinyl graphics specialty shops  out in the Riverside & San Bernardino areas. Or maybe ask the same shop that did yours before in 2019?  The pros use a stack of 3M  Eraser Wheels, plastic razor blades, adhesive remover, sweat,  and patience. Yours might not be so baked on after only 6 years.

Welcome, and congratulations!

We use a metal 3 bar over the door hanger type with only 2 bars installed so it protrudes less. If the entry is too tight of a squeeze you could  remove the mirror and hang it on the  bedroom side instead.

I removed mine because it appeared to be leaking down thru the ps wheel well when the washer pump was activated. IIRC that required removing the battery, and a socket wrench and box end wrench to remove one bolt and one nut on top of the fender well. But getting it out was a real pita.

The leak actually  turned out to be a disintegrating plastic Y fitting in the windshield washer hoses. To get to that just remove the windshield wiper arms and black plastic cowling between the hood and windshield. You can buy  a generic Y fitting  at  any auto parts store.  Check that first before you go thru all  the trouble of removing the washer fluid tank and pump assembly. Anyone can take it apart in 15 minutes or less with just a phillips screwdriver.

Does anyone have any idea how many PCs are out there?  Has PC ever released to the public their production unit numbers?   It is so seldom we spot a fellow traveler in a Phoenix Cruiser, I just wonder about these numbers.

That’s a closely guarded trade secret

General Discussion / Re: Valve Stem Extensions
« on: December 15, 2024, 01:45:39 am »
Looking for a source of custom fitted metal valve stems that are matched to Make, Model, Tire Size, and Wheel Type, I found this supplier.  I haven't received them, but I understand they are not extensions.  They replace existing valve stems and are mounted in the wheel.

I used a drill with a grinding stone bit to slightly enlarge one of the holes in each  rear wheel liner. Simple job. Quickly cuts through the stainless steel with no sharp burrs.

I’m running DuallyValve stems (not extenders) with TireMinder  TPMS  sensors. For removing the sensors to add air I use a regular  open end wrench on the jam nuts instead of the flimsy TireMinder  tool that’s hard to position in tight spaces.

This kit dampens noise and vibration from the water pump. Maybe one of your PEX lines is too long and/or shifted and is just transferring the normal pump vibration to a wall or cabinet?

Shurflo pumps are  diaphragm type, no impellers or gears. Exploded view here:

Or a magic silent generator?

Or just buy a Chinese replacement carburetor for $25. If you use a little bit of gasket cement to keep them from falling out while aligning the bolts you can do the swap in under 90 minutes .

You could also remove the original  carburetor and clean the jets and float valve with spray Gumout, but be aware that if you  drill out the tamper proof caps to remove all the jets, Cummins - Onan will no longer service the genset, if that matters LOL. Just remember to count the exact number of turns to bottom before removing the jets. The main is underneath  the altitude adjustment knob.
Be sure to spray the fuel shutoff solenoid valve thoroughly, and actuate it with 12v to check that it moves freely before reassembling.

Have you tried the parts department at Phoenix USA? Although it was obsoleted, the former parts manager was able to locate one for me at the vendor several years back.

In retrospect, I should have epoxied the cracked  one and  kept it for a spare instead of just tossing it.

If you are concerned about draining the batteries you can idle the engine  to supply 12v from the alternator for the slide motors. But turn off the inverter while extending and retracting the slide to be on the safe side.

Inspect the radiused edges of the fiberglass roof, where it goes underneath the front cap. The gaps are about .25” at the ends of the seam, so check there first for voids in the caulking.

If you have the Dometic a/c’s, the exterior shroud is fastened on by 4 torx screws. That’s simple to remove if you just want to check for any visible  signs of  damage.

I've heard (not confirmed) that Phoenix and Hoosier Cruiser are having some legal issues with each other.

The lawsuit against HCC was dismissed with prejudice in May of 2022.
It’s a pity that Earl and the others had to deal with the legal expenses. These aren’t the best of times for the rv industry to begin with. Those HCC employees created  much of the good will that Phoenix earned with a good reputation. Don’t be surprised if PC owners turn to HCC for service needs when no one answers.
