General Discussion / Towing with a PC

We have an 06' PC 2100 with slide. Love it for travel and weekends. We make several trips form Illinis to new Orleans per year, and do some weekend camping. However with retirement looming, and the prospect of longer and more frequent trips we started thinking about the need for more room.
A big class A sounds nice, untilone looks at price and maintainance costs (The PC can be serviced wherever ford vans are serviced)
The fifth wheels are nice... but we don't want to drive all day in the cab of a truck. (The idea of brewing coffee and making a sandwich on the fly is nice, plus the wife can nap in the back all the way to New Orleans or wherever)
Then we looked at some larger travel trailers, and found some of the newer ones pretty nice and way cheaper than trading in the PC.
So.... the thought hits me, keep the PC for weekends and short trips, and use it to tow a 26' or so trailer for longer trips where we plan to spend more time at camp sites.
Does this make sense? I figure fuel mileage is about the same as towing with a big truck...  We get the convinence of travelling with a small motorhome and the space of a large trailer when needed.
How would the PC 2100, with it's relativewlly shorter wheelbase work as a tow vehicle? I am probably missing something with this plan. I usually do:)

The electric valves in my unit gave me problems the first year.. especially on cold weather. The often would not open. I bought manual valves from about ten bucks each replaced the electric valves... Not really any harder to use than the electric ones, you can bend down to push a buttion, or bend down to pull a lever.

The electric sofa will fit through the back door... it's tight, but it can be taken out.  We found the electric sofa in our 06' 2100 was not comfortable as either sofa or bed.
This summer we removed it and I built a folding maple frame that converts from sofa to bed easily. For a matress, we ordered memory foam of the internet and cut into three cushions, and upholstered them with breathable leather-like material,
Total cost of the replacement was about 250 dollars, plus a couple days in the workshop.

We have the smaller 2100 unit on the E350.... We get 10-12 most of the time, depending on speed, wind and terrain.
At 65MPH on the interstate... I figure 11-12.

I had the same problem on my 2006 PC.  For about 12 dollars each, I replaced the electric valves with manual valves. Took less thanb an hour to make the change and they really are not that much harder to reach and open... Plus, we sometimes use our unit in winter and electric valves seem to be 'iffy' at best during cold weather.

Most of our local stations went digital last month... I picked up a converter at Best Buy for about fifty bucks and it works great. The signals that were 'snowy' now come in clear as a bell.
Our flat screen is not HD, but on a 19" screen even the digital signal at 480i is great. Much better than the old analog signals. From my experience, HD only makes a significant difference on sets about 26" and larger.

Sounds a lot like the mini-bed we had on our previous unit, a Great West Classic supreme. Full size bed, but onyl 18" of headroom... Good only for kids who didn't try to sit up in the middle of night.
BUT... made for a great storage area. We could put a ton of stuff up there.

We have an 06' PC 2100 purchased new in November of 07.  The limits of our garage are 21' long and under 10' high and this unit fits with an inch to spare both ways:)
We unsized a bit from our Class B Great West Classic Supreme.. thats the one with the high top.
SO far, we love the PC and it provides the perfect combination of enough room, while still small enough to go, and park, nearly anywhere.
Most of our use is travelling from Illinois to New Orleans or to the Philadelphia area where we stay in it while visiting inlaws and children.
We have ahs a few minor problems, and have made a few minor changes, but overall really like this unit.
Handles sooooo much better than the Great West.
