General Discussion / Cab heat and sound insulation - floor
« on: June 10, 2023, 05:10:54 pm »
Insulating the floor was a bigger job than the doors and doghouse. It took a total of about 8 hours.  We had removed the seats (4 bolts) prior to removing the doghouse knowing we were going to insulate the floor.  After removing the doghouse, we took off the inner side panels (3 pop-in trim retainers).  We had to remove the scuff panels at each door as they not only held down the carpet but also the outer footwell side panels.  Last we removed the carpet strip where the cab meets the coach (10 screws).  The carpet was then carefully pulled up - it was glued directly to the metal but peeled up easily.  We lightly scraped the glue residue, vacuumed and wet wiped the floor.  3 widths of the Dynamat extreme (sound deadening) covers the width of the floor.  To get the correct shape around the doghouse area we simply laid it over the edge and pressed to make an impression.  I then cut about 3/4” from the indentation so the doghouse seal would sit against bare metal.  I marked and cut out where the seat bolts would pass through as well as the electrical box under the drivers seat.  I applied the Dynamat up to and behind the wire bundle running just in front of where the cab and coach meet. After delaying the 3 large sheets I used the paper backing to make templates for the wheel wheel areas.  These were done in pieces and the bare firewall on the passenger side was covered as well. All the Dynamat was then rolled down to insure good contact and adhesion.  We chose to also put Dynaliner padding down for thermal insulation.  This was done similar to the Dynamat.  I was carful to cut it slightly smaller around the doghouse and at the door openings where the scuff plated would lie. I did not apply it to the sides of the wheel well as the space for feet is so cramped.  The old carpet was placed on top of the new rug (5x8 area rug) and used as a pattern.  All bolt holes etc were marked and precut as well.  After insuring  and adjusting fit where necessary we used double sided carpet tape.  We applied it along the vertical edge where the cab meets the coach, around the perimeter and other strategic locations. We layer the rug starting on the vertical edge exposing the carpet tape strips as we carefully rolled it forward into place and up into the wheel wheels.  All parts were put back in the reverse order they were removed.

In business they say “pick the low hanging fruit” so we choose the doors to start. An easy 2-3 hour project.  The inside door panels have only 4 screws.  There is one in the upper corner near the A pillar, one in the opposite lower corner and one behind the door handle.  Once the one behind the door handle is out, we carefully removed the small panel behind the handle.  There is an internal screw through a metal plate just above the door handle.  The panel then lifted up and off.  Behind it was a piece of clear plastic sheeting cut to fit the door and stuck in place. I removed it carefully to use as a pattern.   I layer the Dynamat sheets down being carful to provide the required overlap and traced the plastic sheet.  I marked every opening, and hole where screw or piece of the door panel would go through. I cut the Dynamat to the shape of the door and cut out the door handle and speaker openings but only cut “x” where other openings would be.  Once the Dynamat was applied to and adhered tightly to the contours of the door with a roller, I fine tuned the size and placement of the screw holes and holes where the inner panel would hang. All seams were taped with foil tape, then the inner panel was put back on.

Next we removed the seats and the doghouse.  We carefully removed the OEM insulation in the doghouse and cleaned the surface.  We made paper templates to cover the inside and then lined it completely with Dynamat.  We then replaced the OEM insulation.  Again only a couple hours.

We built a third shelf just like the others with a lip.  I store items of similar size on each shelf and simply put a tension rod across when we travel. I simply raise it up to the shelf above when we are stationary to allow access to items on the shelf.

General Discussion / Re: Front Curtains-Never Used

Hi Zoltan,
I don’t know what the curtains look like up but might be interested if they are white.  We live in CT, will be heading to VA later this week and to Illinois at the end of the month.  Where about are you?  Jo

General Discussion / Mice
« on: May 31, 2022, 10:46:22 am »
We have owned or 2910d for three winters now.  The first two years there was no evidence of mice except in the passenger rear drawer/compartment.   This year when we opened it to get ready for the season there was mice dropping and more almost everywhere. Luckily all textiles are stored on tubs and the mattress is placed on top so it was untouched.  I have queried the forum but not found a lot of info except “seal all openings”.  They did come into the front cupboards but didn’t stay as they were empty.  They were under the bathroom sink, kitchen sink, stove and in all the drawers there.  They were under the bed where the water pump sits. There’s were all over the inside of the coach.  Can anyone give me specifics about where they have closed openings to prevent this.  Also, what about the slides - what prevents them from coming up through the rubber track the wires/ pipes run through?

As Bruce and Kathy stated, the bed slides under the desk.  It only slides under about 6”.  You cannot lift the foot to access anything stored underneath.  We have found that if you are not real tall (we are 5’ol and 5’4”) that the bed can be slept in without putting the slide out if necessary.

As Ron suggested above, we use a piece of rigid foam. It is suspended from the frame of the dome with clear command hooks.  We slide it out to shower.  This blocks not only heat but all the light pollution when trying to sleep.

Based on the virtual tour, the new ones have backsplashes in the kitchen and bathroom.

John, did you replace your couch?  If so, is the weight a problem?

General Discussion / Leak in sewer pipe
« on: November 16, 2020, 02:03:58 pm »
We have used the macerator system multiple times without issue.  We then camped at a campground with full hookups so we hooked up and used a regular sewer hose.  After that we noticed a small but constant drip from one of the pies - not the one that the hose was hooked to but the one that comes out toward the side of the coach and is capped.  I don’t know if you can see the drip in the third photo.  Does anyone know how to fix this or do we need to go to a dealer?

Hi, my husband John and I bought a used Phoenix Cruiser 2910d this spring after seeing them at the Hershey RV show last fall.  We have spent the last 10 years touring on our motorcycle towing a small pop-up so this is quite a change for us.  We bought it mainly because John wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail and this would allow me to follow along to provide support.

General Discussion / Re: Loose screws on door latch mechanism
« on: September 23, 2020, 06:58:56 am »
We bought a used 2015 and had the same problem. They kept coming loose and sometimes we couldn’t get into the coach.  Used locktight and they seem to be holding.  Yesterday I couldn’t get in again.  I found one of the two latch bolts was partially unscrewed and pushing against the jam.
