General Discussion / Re: NEWBIE with several questions

Wow!  I'm overwhelmed with gratitude for all of you responding to my questions!!  I will let my husband read through all of this valuable information and see if we can figure out more stuff.  The mileage on the Ford E450 was under 10,000, and that was part of the problem with all the stuff that wasn't working - sat too long unused.  I'll have to check what it is now, but probably around a 1,000 more.  The RV has the backup camera installed on the rear, but inside there is no monitor.  Where the radio is located on the dash is a black rectangle "cover" and that is where Camper's Inn said the monitor would go.  (There definitely is no monitor on the visor.)  We definitely did not purchase this RV "as is".  We were in communication with Camper's Inn via email and phone.  They agreed to have the RV in excellent working order and they had ten days from the deal to our arrival.  They did absolutely nothing except put on new tires which we paid for.  You wouldn't believe the problems we had just on the trip home to Texas from Florida.  But that's another story.  We got most everything fixed locally and Camper's Inn did pay for it. -- Well, I started this a few hours ago, but had to leave.  I'm going to have to study all of this info, along with husband, and try out these suggestions.  I sincerely thank you all for taking the time to help!  I'll keep you updated.  Robin

General Discussion / NEWBIE with several questions

Hello.  I'm Robin Rodriquez.  I joined this group several months ago, but time got away from me.  We purchased our 2011 2551 in August, driving from Huntsville TX to Jacksonville FL to pick it up sight-unseen from Campers Inn.  It immediately went in the shop locally for 2.5 months to fix things the dealer didn't do (but they paid for the repairs).  Then we drove it 9 hours out in west TX for Thanksgiving and boondocked on relative's property.  Back in the shop for more attention.  Then end of December boondocked at daughter's in Dallas area.  So we had our first "real" camping this past week for only two nights in east TX.  While boondocking we were unable to plug in and had to use battery/generator/engine.  Batteries didn't last long so had to use the generator or the truck engine to charge them.  At home we are using a battery maintainer to keep them charged since we are unable to plug in at home either.  Campers Inn gave us a 15 to 20 connector saying that would work to be able to plug in at home.  The repair shop here said the same thing, but every time we try it throws a relay on the circuit which is 20 amp. So what do we really need to be able to plug our PC in at our home?  Do we need to install a special outlet in the garage?  We really love our PC and are slowly outfitting it to meet our needs.

Loose Steering:  The steering seems very loose to me.  My husband says it's okay for him and he had his truck-driver brother test drive it and he didn't have a problem with it.  It's scary to drive for me with such loose steering.  Is this normal?

Back up camera:  We have the camera, but no monitor.  The dealer was supposed to give us one, but we never got it, even after several calls to them.  They told us the black cover on the dash was where the monitor would go.  Husband recently looked up the brand and said that location is for a GPS.  So, do we just need to purchase a monitor and attach it somewhere on the dash?

TV:  We've had a heck of a time trying to figure out how to operate the TVs.  (There is some sort of dome on the roof that is for the TV, but not sure how that works.  Probably have to subscribe to some service to use it.  Should we remove it?)  We just use the regular antenna that you crank up or will use the cable at a RV park once we start staying at those.  The park last week was a Corps of Engineers park so no cable hookup.  Never could get the antenna to pick up anything.  We've followed the instructions given by the dealer, but still problems.  (We really need to make the trip to PC and let them go over everything.)

So, in looking around this forum, it seems very complicated and the information seems outdated.  Such as the Phoenix Cruisers Owners Club.  The link provided there is no good.  The Factory Contacts appear to be outdated.  I did see a reference that they were looking for a different platform for this group that would be more user friendly.  That would be GREAT!  I finally figured out the most current posts are at the very end.  I tried searching for "loose steering" and found a little, but the talk is above my understanding.

I feel very overwhelmed in trying to understand the workings of the PC and where to find information.  I tried to ask a couple of questions on the FB group, but they insisted that I come here, so here I am, finally.  Hoping some friendly soul can offer a lot of (dumbed-down) answers to my elementary questions.  Thank you in advance for any information!
