General Discussion / Re: Forum Update May 22nd @ 8am EST

First, we just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their patience during the software upgrade and also for the valuable feedback.   tymote

Also, thank you for helping and supporting each other when possible.  It's likely that many of the seasoned members on the board are able to answer some forum related questions better than we can.

The current default theme seems to be the major complaint.  This theme was chosen as the default as it appeared to be the most popular based on the modern features it has. Specifically, that it has a responsive design and tries to move things around to fit different form factors (Desktop, Tablet, Mobile)  However, it seems there are some "in-between" screen sizes that just don't look right. (profile info moved above but not centered, etc.)

If you will notice, there is a new post under General Discussion "How to change your PC Cruiser Forum Theme".  We are installing these themes as-is from the publishers (not making modifications) and we may add more in the future (and will make an announcement when we do).

Also, we think we have the issues fixed with the custom profile fields. (certain models not available, etc.)

Please let us know if you have any other issues.

Thanks!

First, click on Profile menu and select Profile option (see attachment 1)

Then click on Modify Profile and select “Look and Layout” option (see attachment 2)

Click on “change” link next to current theme  (see attachment 3)

Then simply choose from the available themes by clicking “Use this theme”.

More themes may be added in the future.  The current choices are a mix of dark vs. light backgrounds and responsive vs. non-responsive (non-responsive does not re-arrange screen sections to fit different form factors)

Keep in mind that different themes may move things around from what you’re used to so it may take getting used to things and exploring a bit to find what works best for you.

Hi,
1) At least in my case the profile information has been lost.  Well some of it.  I did not look at everything but the model owned, location and some other fields are either blank or wrong.  For example it has me in a 2100 but the old forum showed 2552.
Thank you for letting us know about this profile data.  This should be corrected now.  We missed a step in the data conversion process.

2) Was there not a way to change the color scheme on the forum with the old code?  I find the all white background too bright.
We may look at some other dark themes for the default theme in the near future.  I'm not sure if you could actually change the background color before.  This theme was selected because it was the most modern (and most popular) theme compatible with the software upgrade.  It is "responsive" meaning it should function much better on phones/tablets compared to the old theme.

3) On the old forum the member box showed more info including what model they have.  I found that invaluable when answering questions.
Thanks.  We will check into this.  Not sure if this was a custom modification that may have been overlooked.

General Discussion / Forum Update May 22nd @ 8am EST

To All Forum Members,

Just a quick heads up that we will be doing an update to the Forum on the  May 22nd @ 8am EST.  We expect that the update will be relatively quick, however you should plan on the forum not being available for approximately two hours.  The update will result in some added functionality, an updated look and feel, but still maintain all the same content and functionality that is currently there.  We wanted to give you a heads up that the change was coming, and when, so you can plan accordingly.

All the best!

Jim Byrnes
