General Discussion / Re: Softstart
« on: March 27, 2021, 08:20:13 pm »
I don't care for the ladder either but might come in handy if needed sometime. Main use is to support a bicycle. Last summer I installed a Micro Air EasyStart on a P2 and it worked as advertised to keep the gen breaker (at the unit) from kicking off when AC was cycling. I read where a fellow mounted a second AC and made it work off 30 amp with an EasyStart. My plans are to add another P2 AC this year but think I'll wire it separate from the house system to be safe. We do a lot of dry camping throughout the summer and 90 degree temps make the one unit struggle. I carry a 7000 watt generator in my car trailer I tow and use it to power the trailer and motorhome. Gen set on the 2910 is mainly a backup and rarely used but when it is it struggles sometimes.

General Discussion / Re: Dead battery
« on: April 26, 2020, 12:23:41 pm »
One of the first things I did when we got our coach in 2017 was to put a trickle charger on the engine battery for the winter months mid Nov thru Feb when it is parked. OE Motor-craft battery (2016) still died in 2019. Noticed it was cranking slower than usual last mid-year so in went a new cranking battery.

Tips and Tricks / RoadTrip T4 Hybrid Setup
« on: April 23, 2020, 06:03:39 pm »
This may be old news but a search didn't find a mention. I've always struggled with getting a good signal on the Dish western arc for one reason or another. Our old MH had a manual dish you had to hunt the signal with and I carried a freestanding dish to set away from the site if needed. Still had to hunt the signal. I had Earl add a RoadTrip T4 setup for Dish (default is Direct TV) on our 2017 2910T before picking it up. Worked ok but trees were still a problem at some locations and I no longer carried an extra antennae. Until my sister had Dish installed I hadn't heard of their eastern arc satellites. I thought it would be neat to be able to get a western or eastern signal if I was in a tight situation. I tried switching the T4 over to the eastern arc but never made it work. After many internet searches on many forums I found someone that had posted a setting that was supposed to get both western and eastern arcs. Found out there are many sets of instruction for satellites with varying info. The info this person posted had a hybrid setting for the T4. With nothing to lose but a little work I pulled the dome off again and reset the dip switches. Depending on how I park at the house I can now get 61.5 from the eastern arc one direction or 110, 119 and 61.5 from the western and eastern arc at the same time when backed in. The hybrid setting I used for the dip switches is 1 up, 2-3-4 down, 5-6 up, 7-8 down. I'm using a new wally now in place of the older 211 I previously used. I think it took about 3 resets (unplugging) on the wally but once the satellites were acquired it's fine. One downside depending on which arc your service is with you might lose your local stations but have others. Don't know if this might be of use to anyone but I like having the option for western and eastern sats and not needing to carry extra equipment when obstacles block reception. But, sometimes over the air is still all you can get.

General Discussion / Re: Water leak behind passenger seat
« on: January 18, 2020, 05:50:12 am »
Had same problem, same area.  Found gap in caulk on horizontal molding on front cap.

I had the same also plus some. One major leak was where the antennae wires entered through the roof. Seal looked good but still leaked. Added more roof sealant but no luck. Finally taped the whole wire assembly along the roof and stopped the leak.

General Discussion / Re: 2017 2910T Dinette Leaking From Rain
« on: December 02, 2019, 10:18:03 am »
We have the same problem with our 2910T, I'm sorry to say. The only solution that works somewhat for us is to put the right side slide in when rain is expected and tilt the chassis over to the left a little. A little water will still trickle in if the rain is heavy or blowing. I have caulked everywhere I can. Even roof coated the top seam under the topper (which doesn't quite completely cover the slide). Our cabinets were soaked in water too. The first time it happened on the 2910T was really a disappointment. I actually was naive enough to think improvements had been made in 17 years to slide outs as our previous MH, which only had one side, leaked in the rain also. Unless it was just a drizzle that slide had to come in also. As with most everything there are compromises so we deal with it and go on.  I still think the PC has more pluses than cons than other models I have had experience with in past years. This is our third year with this PC and other than a few hiccups, nothing major other than the ride side leak from the slide, it has performed satisfactorily especially with the demands from towing a 28" race car trailer around the southeast.  I have just taken the trailer toad off and put it away for the winter and getting out the car dolly for another FT Lauderdale trip to do a little family visiting and RC model flying at the Markham field there. Have a nice day everyone!

General Discussion / Re: Screen Door Latch (Southco) Part # for 2018 2552
« on: October 26, 2019, 06:19:11 pm »
I found one on Amazon for our 2017 2910T. It included an incorrect jam hook but the latch works fine, even better than original as it was hard to close and open. Must have been a 10 lb pull.  Southco Inc C3-305 Snap-In Grabber Catch .043 to .114 Panel Thickness, 5 Lbs. Pull Force

""Do you full-time?""

No, not full timers. Mostly used on the weekends and some 3-4 day races in TN,  Alabama and Georgia through the summer months. Pulled a 32" trailer with a dragster to the IHRA finals last fall to Memphis for 4 days. Seldom ever have hookups so have to travel with a full freshwater tank. We have made a couple of trips to Ft Lauderdale and other area's of Florida but were pulling a car & dolly and not the trailer. (Drove a 40' class A to Key West once (down town even), not the best of decisions!) Some  trips are 150 to 300 miles but usually less.   Several years ago we decided an RV would be a better convenience than a motel room when visiting/ staying over at various race tracks.  If you have not figured it out yet I have a bad habit I've not been able to kick. Pushing my mid 70's now and still wrenching and driving.

About the frame mods, I would never ask a manufacturer to do something like that as it is too specialized and for my use only. That is a liability they (IMO) couldn't and shouldn't deal with. I did much research and testing on a used C class with more overhang than this PC has and made it work without damage to the coach.Look around enough and you may find or see some C's and A' that were used for trailer towing and how the coach's have been damaged from excessive tongue and side loads. I still see RV's towing trailers that shouldn't be. Tongue loads can be doubled or possibly tripled by pounding on some interstates. The original hitch was rated at 500 and 5000 and I think that was pushing it but I'm no engineer. Some C class now have 750 and 7500 rated hitches but I would never do it. I've seen super C's with 10k hitches. Every pound of tongue weight detracts from front axle weight and coach balance which is a hazard in itself by losing steering control. Adding tongue load adds more weight to the rear axle of the coach and too many are already maxed out without the addition of a trailer. Since I don't have a vertical tongue load to deal with I added to and doubled the receiver mount  and added longitudinal and cross bracing to the frame. No welding. The tow load is also spread out over two more dolly to PC frame connections (extensions) in addition to the hitch connection by a slider insert to the receiver. The trailer toad axle swivels in turns to match the direction the rear of the coach moves. There have been several units marketed over the years but I went with the TrailerToad unit as the best setup directed to RV use. I think they even supply some to the armed forces now. Maybe the frame would have been strong enough as delivered using the trailer toad but I didn't want to chance it after seeing how much a car dolly can distort a RV frame side to side years ago. So, after all my overkill on hitch and frame strengthening my main concern is with stopping and steering control. I did have PC add a steering control unit for blowouts. Trailer brakes and tires are replaced on a regular basis. Here is a picture of our last coach taken at the end of 2016 after 7 years of towing a trailer with the dolly.

Actually there is at least one more. We live right off 162 not far from Hardin Valley.
Now that's "Determination".

This PC is my third rig and the best. I've been towing this 28' trailer over ten years now with E450's with the trailer toad. The last one was a C model E450 with 7.3 diesel with a five speed. The V10 and six speed tranny out performs the diesel and gets the same milage with lower fuel and maintenance costs. I hesitated to even post this picture because towing a trailer this size is not something that can be done without several upgrades to the coach frame and extra equipment. It's not for everyone. There is no tongue load because of the trailer toad but tractor loads and side forces are increased and must be compensated. Handling is very good with the extra axle between the trailer and coach. Best cruise is around 65 mph and passing vehicles hardly cause a bobble. In fact towing a car dolly handles worse and creates more side load in turns.

General Discussion / Re: Resetting the Oil Monitor
« on: February 17, 2019, 03:17:41 pm »
Can an owner of a 2017 Ford E450 tell me how they have reset the oil change monitor? I have followed the manual's instructions but can not seem to actuate the monitor to reset it.

Well you created an itch for me to go check our 2017 E450 as I have never seen anything pop up on ours but it only has 7900 miles on it and one oil change at 3800. Getting ready to do another before this March trip. Since it is only used 6 months or less a year the oil change criteria is met. Went through the menu as described but there is no oil life monitor. My manual also lists another way of resetting a monitor (if equipped)  by holding down the accelerator pedal and brake at the same time with the ignition on. About 30 seconds. I think unless a chassis is special ordered for a build you get the most basic cab chassis offered. Learned how to set the auto door lock-unlock feature anyway.

General Discussion / Re: winterizing omission?
« on: February 17, 2019, 02:17:58 pm »
Yes, I think the flush valves were omitted from winterizing instructions as I couldn't find a mention of them after having an issue last March trying to flush. After taking the lines loose from the tanks and finding water in them I concluded the problem was with the check valves being jammed from freezing. Couldn't find any damage but they wouldn't pass water.  I was almost to the point of ordering more when I decided there was nothing to lose by trying a light tap with a center punch. It worked and they got a blast of air last year after the last flush when winterizing.

Same rotating problem and lost caps on my 2910T. I use 2 big zip ties on them now. Almost 4000 miles this year so far with them still in place.

General Discussion / Re: Steering stabilizer
« on: June 17, 2018, 10:22:46 am »
I had the stabilizer added to our 2910T before picking it up last year primarily as a safety feature in case of a blowout. Back in the late 70's I witnessed an accident from a left front blowout that caused the MH to drift to the center median and run off between the gap between the north south bridges on I-75 south and impact on the street below. It looked as if a bomb had exploded inside. If I remember correctly both grandparent didn't survive but the children did. After that dirt berms were added to block those overpass gaps but even if they had been in place it would still have been a horrendous accident. I still have wandering issues from vehicles passing at a higher rate of speed and wind gusts but otherwise the steering is much improved over the previous 10+ years of of class C's I have used and owned. I really don't like Ford's twin i beam front suspension because it seems more sensitive (just my opinion) to body roll but the lower overall body height of the 2910T has virtually eliminated that issue which was drastic on my last 31 ft C. (Still feels like there is a rubber band somewhere in there compared to my duramax pickup steering)  I'm basically a GM person but this 2017 E450 PC chassis with the 6 speed trans (18 in longer WB) is the best  handling and towing (with stock components) one I've used in the last 10 years. But, If one fills up the water tank more than half full the steering will be affected. I've tried it both ways. It is not as bad as my last C but just a little uncomfortable when full. A full tank is only used when we are boondocking (which is most of the time but usually the one to three day trips are a shorter distance).

General Discussion / Re: Potential problem
« on: June 04, 2018, 12:50:17 pm »
I checked on a replacement hose and found prices from a low in the $60 range up to $120 for a premium hose. Even though I think they are the same from 2007 on availability on the road could be an issue plus the repair and labor cost and down time and potential engine damage from overheating.
