General Discussion / 50 amp power cord

This morning I was unable to remove the 50 amp power plug from the coach.  I killed the power and removed the 4 screws holding the cover plate.  The large male plug behind the cover plate had a melted spot about 2 inches in diameter and about 3/4 inch deep.  The male and female plugs were welded together.  After a lot of cutting and prying I was finally able to separate the plugs, both of which have to be replaced.  I was able to save the painted cover plate. The built in Progressive industries system never showed a error.  About a week ago I thought I smelled burning plastic, but couldn't find a source.  Upon disassembly I noticed all of the contact screws on the male connector were loose .  I suspect these loose contact screws caused the problem.  Just a heads up for other owners.

I had this problem,  in my case  2 of the thumb tightening nuts located behind the 3 way valve where loose.  Water  was running in the channel aft and the across the back and presenting near the toilet - this only occurred when hooked up to city water.  There is an access panel under the driver side bed about 2/3's of the way back. it's an easy fix, I had to secure the pipes to keep them from vibrating and working the nuts loose.  hope this helps!!

There is a second panel further aft under the drivers side bed that should give you access to the valve.  When I first discovered the water, there was a small puddle on the floor just aft of the refrig.  The water was running forward up the electrical channel from the valve toward the refrig.  There are only 4 screws securing the panel so it’s worth a look.  Mine only leaked when hooked up to city water.

I had a similar problem with our 2018 2552.  I  found water under the drivers side bed after being hooked to city water. Under the drivers side bed there are 2 access panels.  Remove both panels.  The back of the 3 way valve is now accessible.  Phoenix uses fittings on the back of the 3 way valve that are designed to be tightened by hand.  I discovered that one of the fittings had vibrated loose.  The fix was simply to tighten the nut. On our way to Alaska the problem reoccured.  On our rig the pipes out of the 3 way valve were suspended (not secured) so they were free to vibrate.  I used mini cell foam around the pipes to stop the vibration, problem solved.  It has not not happened again. Fingers crossed!!!

General Discussion / Awesome customer service, again!!!! Main door latch failure

A big shoutout to Carol and the Phoenix Cruiser Team. We had a main door latch failure Sunday evening while staying at the Hilton Head Motorcoach Resort.  Called Carol first thing Monday morning and she expedited a replacement lock assembly.  Phoenix Cruisers customers service is second to none.  Since buying the coach in March of 2018 I have experienced nothing but excellent, top of the line service and support, a rare commodity in today’s world.

There are several threads on the forum regarding latch failures.  A word of caution, when this failure occurred we were outside with the cab doors locked. When the latch failed ( pot metal internal push pull rod) I, it locked us out even though the latch was unlocked prior to the failure. Fortunately my wife had her Ford cab key and we we able to get in the coach and dismantle the lock from the inside.  I have since hidden a spare cab key on the outside

Last Thursday in Pennsylvania my automatic step motor failed.  I called Keith and and set up an appointment for 0900 today.  I arrived at 0900 and was out the door by 1000.  Doug and his team also fixed one of the over-bunk, long LED lights, changed the generator oil and replaced a couple of cabinet hinges due to missing bottom hinge pins.  I'm always impressed with their quality of workmanship and the excellent aftermarket service.  Atta Boy Phoenix!!!!!!

Last summer I had our 2018, 2552 weighed by wheel. We were enroute to Alaska for the summer (4 months) so the camper was packed with all the necessities and a lot of nice to haves, like fishing, hiking gear, etc.  The weighing configuration follows:

Fuel and LP tanks full
Fresh water and holding tanks at 50 %
My wife and I were in the camper (~300 lbs)
Our 65 lb yellow Lab was on board
Spare tire installed
HWH leveling jacks
50 amp service (2 ac units)
2 roof top solar panels
Euro chair
2 AGM 6 volt batteries
We do not have a slide (and don’t miss it)

I’m happy to say that we have a 1030 lb margin (400 in the front and 630 in the  rear). Total coach weight 13470. Our coach has a OCCC sticker that lists our carry capacity as 2140 lbs.

I recently upgraded to the Borg valve stems after loss of air pressure, several times, due to loose valve extensions.   Borg valve stems are a welcome upgrade.   I’m using the EZ Tpms https://eezrvproducts.com/ on the camper and toad, the system worked flawlessly on our 12000 mile trip to and Alaska. I also use several digital accu tire gauges that Ron recommends.  They are easy to use and sccutate.

We picked up a new 2018 Kia Soul base with manual transmission for $13,700.  It only weighs 2800 lbs,comes with an excellent warranty and tows and drives like a dream.  Rigged it out with a Blue Ox Ascent tow bar, patriot 2 brake system and Road Master tow defender. Very easy to set up for towing: hook up the tow bar, etc., install the brake system,  transmission in neutral, key on and then off (leave the key in the ignition and steering wheel stays unlocked), emergency brake off, and you are ready to roll.  We added Yakima roof  bicycle racks so we can take bikes without interfering with the hatchback.  As a side note - my wife loves to take the Kia to our local car wash and watch the young employees gaze in horror at the STICK SHIFT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Make it 3 happy campers!!!! Although we’ve only had our 2552 for a year, we put the unit and towed, through “boot camp” on a 5 month,11500 mile trip from Tennessee to Alaska and back.  Flawless performance and comfort.

I'm also in the market for a small dinghy.  I've done a ton of research and have settled on a 2019 Kia Soul base with manual transmission.  It light, reasonably spacious,  inexpensive and has better than average reliability.  Did I mention it's cheap!!!!!!
