Hi -

We have a 2350  model year 2010.  We have a new problem with the AC / heat pump on our last trip to Florida.  When we turn off the AC or Heat Pump, the unit still runs.  It is not the fan that is running, but there is a hum from the unit regardless of whether we have the Heat Pump or AC unit on.

The only way to stop the humming noise is to shut off the circuit breaker.  When the circuit breaker is turned back on, with the thermostat switch still in the off position, the noise starts immediately though the fan is not blowing.

We have looked at the forum for suggestions and have re-seated all of the wires going into the thermostat control.  We have also tried changing the fan switch from on to auto.

Can anyone provide some suggestions on things to try?  Thanks in advance!

General Discussion / Re: Carrying a kayak

Hi Campergates,

We often carry 2 paddle boards and 2 bikes on a Swagman 4-bike carrier.  We put both paddle boards on the right side and secure them to the ladder.  We then put the bikes on the outer 2 positions of the bike rack.  We also have a 2-position bike rack so we can take one or the other.  We can take one kayak this way as well, but it is more difficult to secure.  Your kayak shouldn’t be much over 10.5 – 11 ft or you may be over highway height restrictions.

We found a good solution and talked with the owner at the Hershey RV show last fall.  These are custom made vertical RV kayak racks made from coated steel frame with stainless steel hardware.  They can carry kayaks, paddleboards and bikes and are lockable.  One advantage with this rack is that the kayaks are mounted sideways and have less wind resistance. They are custom fit to the measurements of your RV.  They are fairly pricy, but are built to last.   You can get signal and brake lights on the frame as well.  We are considering ordering one of these in the near future.  It will be a lot easier than the method we use.  Check out this website and look at the cool video:  http://www.rvkayakracks.com/

Hope this gives you some other ideas.  -KatLin

General Discussion / Re: 2100 Jackknife Couch

Racephoto – I did see the link to your uncomfortable bed solution.  That was a great find and so glad that is working for you.  We prefer to leave the dinette up and are hopeful that when replacing the existing couch we will no longer need the thick memory foam pad and thin air mattress as well.  Thanks!

2travel – I found your comment very interesting that both you and your wife found the electric couch extremely comfortable.  I wish we could say the same.  Did your couch have the memory foam in it?  Our couch is very hard.  Thanks for your input.

Here’s an update – I have spoken to both Kermit and Carol at the factory.  Kermit said that if the couch mechanism works, then we would only need to replace the couch pads!  I was so happy to hear that. We have decided to replace the couch pads, dinette cushions and get the newer table as well.  We’re just waiting to hear back from the factory on final details.  As you all indicated, they are very helpful.  Thanks! -KatLin

Thanks, Carol for bumping us up to the top!  And Thanks to Paul and Gail for their advice.  It's good to know that the couch  in the newer 2100s is more comfortable.  We have tried the split reclining couch and found them very comfortable, but after talking to Earl he said they will fit in any model except the 2100.  We have put in a call to Kermit at the factory to get pricing on a replacement tri-fold couch with memory foam. So we are hopeful of a good outcome.  We live in NW PA and the Elkhart factory is only 5-1/2 hours away. Thanks again and we'll keep you posted.

General Discussion / 2100 Jackknife Couch
« on: January 16, 2016, 05:23:18 pm »
Hello All,

We are new to the forum and have a question.  We have been lurking for a few months.

We have a 2002 PC 2100 that we are very happy with except for the comfort of the jackknife sofa.  We have read on this forum that a couple people have replaced their sofas, but that was in larger models.  Even in pictures of the newer 2100 model on the PC website, the sofa, does not look that comfortable in the sleeping position. Does anyone know if it is?  If it is comfortable, then maybe we can talk to the factory about replacing it.
Right now, we have a 2” memory foam topper that we fold up with the couch with our travasack on top of it, but we still have to put backpacking style air mattresses under that to make it so that we don’t feel the metal ridges of the couch.
Does anyone have personal experience replacing the 54” x 74” jackknife on the 2100 with something that is comfortable for sleeping?  We appreciate any responses.
Thanks!
