Sounds like a good plan, Tom.  Thank you!

Thank you, Gail!  I will look into all that stuff.  Sounds like it could cost a pretty penny, but worth the safety factor.

First I want to say that this forum is great and this post very timely - so, thanks everybody!  I'm two months into ownership on my 2014 2600 (stretched 2400).  The ride seems very jarring over even the smallest bumps so I looked at this thread to learn something about shocks.  Based on the advice here, I did a little more reading online about the Bilstein and Koni shocks and saw some comments from people on other forums about shocks helping to minimize the effects of wind from passing trucks, etc.

I have experienced some very frightening handling issues in windy conditions, not really from passing trucks, but on stretches of highway with gusty winds.  I literally have to maintain a death grip on the wheel to keep from being blown off the road.  It was so bad in Montana that we pulled off the highway to rest my nerves (and hands) and try to wait for the winds to subside. Montana was an extreme situation, but I have been surprised by small gusts of wind at many other times and I am now nervous about taking one hand off the wheel at any time on the highway.  Last week, I was at an RV service place for another issue and asked the guy about stabilizers and he sort of pooh-poohed the conversation and said he didn't think stabilizers would help with that.  The guy didn't seem in a helpful mood so I'm not sure if his comment was sound or if he just didn't want to deal with it, but that left me feeling like I don't know what to do about the handling issue.

Anyway, it hadn't occurred to me that perhaps better shock absorbers could help with this?  Anybody have any thoughts on that? Do you or have you had this experience with wind?

Thanks!
Gretchen

Wow!  What a beautiful difference the tile and chairs make in the interior color palette.  Love it!  Now I'm going to have to add a tile backsplash to my wish list...

Tips and Tricks / Re: No Flame Warning on Refrigerator

Thank you all for your suggestions!  I spoke with an RV servicer and while we were chatting a light bulb went on.  Turns out this was simply a case of the batteries being too low on juice to ignite the flame and I didn't realize it.  Apparently it sat a bit too long with the engine off (15 minutes?) and the refrigerator defaulted to dc mode and drained the house battery to the point that it wouldn't light.  Chalk it up to newbie idiocy.  I will sure keep your suggestions in mind for when I need them for real!

I just spoke with Kermit and he said on a newer refrigerator like mine, it should not be nearly this picky about leveling so it must be another issue.  Now to find a place for service.  :-)

Yes, I lit the stove and let it run for a minute or so.  Didn't help.

Tips and Tricks / No Flame Warning on Refrigerator
« on: August 17, 2015, 11:22:19 am »
Hi all,

I'm having a heck of a time with my 3-way refrigerator and keep getting a no-flame message when trying to operate in the LP mode.  LP tank is 2/3 full and the stove works just fine.

I am in the process of transitioning from my stick/brick house to full-time in the MH and we are at the awkward stage of having the house on the market and the RV parked in the driveway between jaunts.  We have to do brief getaways every time the house is shown so we are in and out of the driveway a lot.  My driveway is slanted so I have to use the leveling jacks to get the MH level.  Either the refrigerator seems to be insanely picky about being level or there is something else wrong.  Each time we return, I have to fiddle around a lot with the leveling to get the refrigerator to cooperate and light the flame.  Yesterday, I spent 45 minutes messing around with the levels and trying to get the LP to light on the fridge and it never worked.  I can hear the LP click on, but the flame never lights.  The indicators on the HWH jacks say we are level and the level I put on the floor in front of the refrigerator says we are level in all directions.  I lit the stove to to see if I needed to clear the lines of air and that didn't help.  I finally gave up, turned off the fridge and took everything from the fridge and freezer in the house.

Any ideas what else I can do?  I am going nuts dealing with this!

P.S.  I am one of those people who doesn't feel comfortable driving with the propane on so I turn it off every time we drive away. I'm also not comfortable doing much in the way of repairs so if there is anything very complicated, I might have to get someone else to help.

Tips and Tricks / Re: Mouse Repellent

Holly, I have a terrible memory so I stick post-it notes in obvious places for things I know I will forget.  I was thinking maybe you could stick a post-it note on the steering wheel with a reminder to take the mouse sachets out of the engine compartment.

Thanks, Ron!  I will look into the Quiet Hitch thing and the storage bag.  The bike portion of this removes easily and the basket folds up when not needed so that is nice.  I am taking the MH with me to pick it up so we can see if I need an extender of any sort when the basket is in the folded position.

I have no outside storage on my PC except for the small flat one just rear of the passenger door.  I needed a way to carry a grill (preferably not in the wardrobe), chairs, and my bicycle so I did an exhaustive search and found this combo cargo tray/bicycle carrier for only $189.  I like it because the bikes are on the outside of the tray so they won't interfere with the back compartment.  I am going to pick it up this afternoon and will update on how I like it after I use it for a while.  (Sorry if the photo is tiny, it was all I could find and resolution was terrible if I tried to make it any bigger.) http://www.discountramps.com/hitch-cargo-carrier-bike-rack/p/BCCB-BDX/

Thank you all for your insight!  In the interest of getting immediate protection, I did more research on theft prevention for the portable models and I've opted for one of those for the time being.

I'm wondering if anyone has installed (by themselves or a third party) a hard-wired surge protector after teh coach is built?  I just talked to Earl about having one installed in my motorhome and he said they won't do it except at the time the coach is built.  I like the idea of the hardwired version, but I'm curious about the feasibility of installing it now. (I wouldn't attempt it myself but would look for somewhere else to get it done.)

Thanks,
Gretchen

Tips and Tricks / Re: Screening
« on: June 24, 2015, 10:46:42 pm »
You could make a screen that attaches to the frame with magnets or velcro.  www.theskeeterbeater.com makes screens for truck windows (driver and passenger) that attach with magnets.  If you don't want to make one yourself, maybe they do custom sized screens that would fit your emergency exit window?

Hi everybody,

I'm Gretchen and I am picking up my 2014 PC 2600 (stretched 2400) next week at the factory!  I've been lurking on here for months soaking up all the words of wisdom (thank you all for sharing) and it has been very helpful.  Currently home is near Milwaukee, WI.  I'm a complete newbie so I'll do a couple shorter trips to get everything figured out and then I'm diving headfirst into fulltiming with my dog (Elliot) and cat (Marvin).  I'm sure I'll have a lot of stupid questions so please bear with me!

I hope to see some of you out there on the road!
Gretchen

P.S. I will have a recliner and folding dining chair in tan ultraleather that I don't need if anyone is looking to pick up one of those items.
